Yesterday I noticed what I thought was a bite of some kind on my bottom! Obviously I couldn’t see it but today it’s hot to the touch so I got my OH to take a picture. It looks pretty unpleasant… any ideas what it could be???

I should add I’m 36 weeks pregnant so cautious about ending up with an infection.

Is that pus coming out of it?

See a doctor given that you're pregnant. In the meantime draw a ring round the red part so you/they can see if it's spreading.

Clean it will boiled salted(cooled) water using cotton wool. And don't scratch.

Please don't be offended but your fingernails could be cleaner underneath so careful of that.

Fingernails might be fine, mine get stained from fruit and vegetables and doesn’t scrub off sometimes.

But yes it needs to be seen by a doctor. If you get a high temperature go to A & E.

thank you! No actually puss coming out but white under the skin. I’ll give the dr a call (and give my finger nails a good scrub to be on the safe side!)

Looks like Shingles? Was the area really painful prior to this appearing?

I think it looks like a Herpes virus too, you can sometimes get herpes simplex on your bum!
(Herpes Zoster is shingles and it could be that too).

Either way, i'd call GP

Spoke to the Dr and sent them a picture - she thought it might be shingles too. They are seeing me this afternoon. I’ve got a cold and I’ve not been sleeping well or being able to eat much without getting very uncomfortable with heartburn. Plus I have a toddler and a full time job. Might be time to throw in the towel and sit on the sofa until the baby arrives 😂

If it is shingles use calamine lotion, I have just had a bout and it’s the only thing that really helped. Keep the lotion in the fridge so it’s cold

I thought it looked like genital warts but your Dr know more than me.

I’ve no useful advice but just wanted to send you positive thoughts - like you aren’t already doing enough hefting round a growing baby!

I also think it looks like shingles. Hopefully GP can sort you out with some aciclovir.

It’s shingles according to the Dr - got a course of antivirals which will hopefully sort it out quickly and it’ll be fine before the baby arrives 🤞
