To ask why are the holes inside toilet rolls so bug

Why? So much bigger than the roller they go on. Shake up so much space as a result. Grr.

So the whole roll looks massive, but actually contains as little loo roll as possible I suspect! So you feel like you're buying 9 big rolls but getting hardly any paper! Capitalism, innit?

OhmygodDont · 30/10/2023 14:23

They have actually been making them bigger and bigger. It’s shrinkflation you think your still getting the nice big rolls but there is less.

A few weeks back I found an older roll and the tube easily fit inside the newer ones with space. Same brand.

Iv’e not paid that much attention to the tube so will have a look. I’m pretty sure tho that the sheets are getting smaller. I think they used to be more of a rectangle shape and now they’re nearly square.

Zimunya · 30/10/2023 14:41

My mind went off on a tangent about what type of bugs live in toilet rolls.........

TheNoodlesIncident · 30/10/2023 14:41

It's quite variable though. Some brands have a smaller inner core than others. They do have to have a certain amount of jiggle room as loo roll holders are not standard thicknesses either. M&S ones have quite small cores and three-ply paper, so you've as much absorbency there as you might with a two-ply but a larger size sheet.

Mochudubh · 30/10/2023 15:14

I've noticed that the rolls in the 40 roll packs from Costco have got bigger since the last lot I bought a couple of months ago.

ntmdino · 30/10/2023 15:21

Perhaps try the tubeless ones? We use the Cushelle tubeless rolls and they're brilliant, not least because the holes are smaller than the tubes in most other brands.

CoffeeCantata · 30/10/2023 16:04

Yes - it's a swizz. Like boxes of chocs with huge, elaborate packaging and about 12 chocs.

Btw - I recommend Tesco 12-pack loo rolls - they are huge and actually different from their 2, 4 and 6 packs.

WonderingWanda · 30/10/2023 16:05

They must have been fairly big in the past to fit the dolly with the massive skirt from my childhood in them.

SunlightOverBamburgh · 30/10/2023 16:08

I don't know but my guinea pigs love them!

I discovered this recently too.

I decided to cut down my spending and got budget loo roll from tesco. It was actually narrower than a standard roll. Never seen that before. Bloomin useless as it wasn't wide enough for my big bum! It's annoying how everything is shrinking.

Yes - I used tp stuff loo roll tubes with hay when I didn't want them having a hay bed but they still need to eat loads .
Kept them busy Grin

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 30/10/2023 16:22

More hole, far less roll! Got to keep the shareholder's profits high and fool the consumers with shrinkflation.

Mine love when I stuff them with vegetables

Member968405 · 30/10/2023 16:38

In Italy they sell ‘space saver’ rolls where the whole thing is squashed flat so there’s barely any space inside the tube at all. It then can pop open when you get it out of the packet. Much easier to transport presumably

I know - it did make me smile. Your post is very clear though, so there shouldn’t be any misunderstandings 🐜

Riapia · 30/10/2023 18:39

I found that the tube from a kitchen rolled fitted into the tube from a toilet roll.

PumkinPorridge · 31/10/2023 08:09

It's so annoying. It's like the manufacturers think we are stupid.

WitchDancer · 31/10/2023 08:23

I use Who Gives a Crap loo roll and the hole is far smaller than a lot of supermarket ones. The rolls seem to last longer so I think there's more paper on it too.

cheapskatemum · 31/10/2023 08:39

I third Tesco own brand 12 packs. They are more expensive because there are twice as many sheets on each roll (they are described as "double roll". The diameter of the middle is noticeably smaller to enable that amount of toilet roll to fit between the holder & the wall.
