How far out of date would you use it..

Decided to make fudge this year for Halloween. Got everything needed out of my larder. The Condensed Milk is over a year and a half OOD (dated 03 2022). It still smells okay. Do you think it would be okay to use? I have used it before OOD, but not by more than a year.

I probably would, i often use stuff that is well out of date and have lived to tell the tale.

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 30/10/2023 14:08

I'd use it. My condensed milk tins are currently 2+ years out of date. They'll get used eventually.

NinNinJin · 30/10/2023 14:09

Was it in a tin?

I'd probably use it.

ChannelyourinnerElsa · 30/10/2023 14:09

God yes, it’s tinned and sealed. If the tin isn’t dented or damaged, it’ll be grand.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 30/10/2023 14:10

No problem using it if the can is sound.

PinkRoses1245 · 30/10/2023 14:11

I dont think I've even checked the date on any tins/packets/jars.

mn29 · 30/10/2023 14:11

Assuming it’s in an unopened tin, I’d use it. It’s mostly sugar which is preservative.

DuploTrain · 30/10/2023 14:12

I’d definitely use it from a tin. And you’re going to be cooking it too.

BigDahliaFan · 30/10/2023 14:12

Yep...I opened one recently that was ahem 10 years out of date (house moves). it was fine.

SplendidUtterly · 30/10/2023 14:30

I'd use it.
If it smells and looks ok you'll be fine.

Wwwnothingdotcom · 30/10/2023 14:31

It's not out of date, is it. It just passed best before date.

Whoopy · 30/10/2023 14:32

Thanks for the advice, I will use it. Wish I could give you all some of my fudge.
