To ask what is the point of these fridges with viewscreens?

So you can see what’s in there without opening the door? Are people that lazy? Are they anything more than a stupid gimmick? Or am I missing something huge? And yes I know I’ll get replies along the lines of how do they affect you, just don’t get one if you don’t want one etc etc.

Prepared to have my arse handed to me.

Surely it's obvious why it would be helpful to see what's in the fridge without opening the door to let the warmer air in.

MarathonBarbie · 30/10/2023 10:52

More energy efficient to not keep opening the door.

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/10/2023 10:53

Would hate one. Our fridge is not the tidiest 😁

I don’t get the point either. Surely you’d have to move stuff around to have a proper look. If you had so little in there you can see through the door then you’d remember what’s in there. Plus they don’t seem to have storage on the door.

catbla2957 · 30/10/2023 10:55

It's a gimmick

But surely the screen itself uses energy? Does the energy saved by not opening the door offset the energy use of the screen?

I know what’s in my fridge, I don’t need to keep looking in there?! I don’t get it either

TeeBee · 30/10/2023 11:06

Just more shite to draw people into buying things.

dcsp · 30/10/2023 11:09

Can they display things other than what's in the fridge?

We have a calendar on the door of our fridge. Keeping it in sync with our electronic calendar is a pain, so if the fridge came with a built in display to replace the paper calendar, I'd gladly use it

I believe the Samsung can show you a live view to your phone so you can check for things whilst out shopping. They also display calendars, recipe apps and find recipes based on ingredients. I think they can also log BBE dates etc.

Not for everyone but I can see their uses. If you don't want a smart fridge you don't spend the extra on one, if its features you'd use then go for it.

DampSquid · 30/10/2023 11:28

We've got the type where you can tap on the frudge door to see the contents. Tbh it's a gimmick we seldom use and we bought it for other reasons. I do like being able to open just that part of the fridge door to get milk etc out of the door, without opening the full thing as it's more energy efficient. It's an American style fridge freezer with full length side by side doors

Late-stage capitalism

StarlightLady · 30/10/2023 11:37

It's to remind you that you need to tidy and clean your fridge 😁.

They can be useful for people with disabilities.
