To ask if it's still the 3 week cough rule for babies?

DS2 is 5 months. He developed a cough on Friday night and has also had a temp the last few days, too. This morning I noticed he coughed up a small amount of what appears to be green/yellow mucus. Obviously I'm quite worried and wondering if he needs antibiotics. I don't want to wait to leave it to worsen but also don't want to waste GP's time if they're only going to tell me to treat at home with calpol, which I'm already doing.

I would bring a baby that age to the GP.

Is he happy in himself? Keep an eye on him but otherwise calpol and fluids.

Not sure what a three week cough rule is.

Call the docs for a phone consultation

Never heard of the three week cough rule.
‘Keep him warm and hydrated, keep on with the Calpol. If he’s eating and sleeping normally, carry on, if you’re concerned, GP.

It's unlikely to be requiring antibiotics if it's been since Friday. How is he doing otherwise? Drinking plenty? Wet nappies? Alert? How high are the temperatures? 2 days of high temps wouldn't be a massive concern. If the temperatures carry on beyond 3 days at that age I'd call the gp for advice.

Thanks all. The cough rule is you're supposed to contact the GP is you've had a cough for 3 weeks (usually not before).

I've got in touch with GP via the online form and just put on there that I'm not sure if I should continue to treat at home or need to see the doctor. Hopefully they'll be able to advise me either way.
