To think it’s unprofessional for a manager to complain about members of the team to other team members?

Sorry - it’s a long title!
My manager regularly complains about team members to me - things like; they’re lazy, they’re the weakest link in the team, they need to toughen up etc.
Obviously she does it behind my back to me as well.
AIBU to think this is horribly unprofessional? Nice as anything to their faces.

Sounds very unprofessional and a horrible place to work.

fluffypotatoes · 29/10/2023 17:33

Yeah she probably does the same about you too

Minfilia · 29/10/2023 17:34

I worked somewhere like that.

She was a terrible manager in other ways too but the environment she created was awful. So unprofessional.

sarahh96 · 29/10/2023 17:39

Yep had the same, she was awful. She was the bosses daughter so untouchable. She used to tell us who she was sacking later in the day. Personal stuff about other employees that should have been private HR stuff. She used to regularly take delight in putting the cat amongst the pigeons that sitting back and watching it all unfold, all with her cronies who all thought it was hilarious! I learnt a lot. Basically don't work for a family run garden centre in sussex!

Yes it's very unprofessional and terrible for a Manager to do.

In future maybe you could say, what do you think the best thing to do about it is?

rainbowsparkle28 · 29/10/2023 17:41

Yes. Any issues with member of staff should be discussed confidentially with them directly and in a clear, focused manner, and only appropriate individuals (HR / senior management) again confidentially if needed.
