To ask where to buy reasonably priced but good quality delicate sterling silver necklaces?

I've only started wearing jewellery in the last couple of years. Until now I have been wearing cheap(ish) silver coloured necklaces that have now become discoloured and unsightly. I was given £100 for my birthday recently and would like to use it towards buying myself some new necklaces. I would like sterling silver necklaces as I think these should be less prone to tarnishing?

I like delicate/dainty jewellery, not chunky "in your face" styles. Some of my favourite necklaces currently are simple flowers on a thin silver chain.

Does anyone have any recommendations for where to look for decent quality but not extortionately priced necklaces that would fit my preferences? I have no idea where to start.

I’ve just bought a silver chain from Philip Jones online. They’re really nice and reasonably priced.

I really like some of Alex Monroes necklaces, e.g. the dandelion one.

I only buy jewellery from independent makers, rather than mass produced stuff from big companies. Invariably it's made to order and unique to you. You can find some lovely stuff on Etsy but the maker has to pay extortionate fees so try and go to their actual website if you can.

I've bought earrings from Phillip Jones and think they're good quality and price. They often have 50% off as well. They have a nice selection of necklaces.

Sterling silver will always tarnish. This is a natural chemical reaction that you can't avoid. It's best to actually wear your jewellery as the oils in your skin help to stop tarnishing.

I bought nice ones for pendants from Amazon

I clean mine in silver foil and bicarbonate of soda with added warm water

Can't remember if I added vinegar or not

Try without first

HappiDaze · 26/10/2023 22:45

I remember now

I made a paste from bicarbonate of soda and put it in silver foil

It magically cleaned to a shiny silver

HappiDaze · 26/10/2023 22:45

Corner silver jewellery with the paste wrap in silver foil

There's a website called Jewellery box that does great quality sterling silver jewellery that is delivered promptly and is as described with lots of choice

VeryGoodVeryNice · 26/10/2023 22:48

That’s exactly the kind of necklace I wear, I have metal sensitivities so it has to be sterling silver. I usually get mine from Accessorize or Amazon, or sometimes little independent shops I happen to find when I’m out and about.

I've bought quite a lot from Hot Diamonds website. They have an outlet tab with reduced stuff, and very often there is a 40% off code on the MSE website (I think it's MSE40 when working). It's great quality jewellery and arrives beautifully packaged.

You can buy a silver jewellery cleaner on amazon for a tenner that is BRILLIANT (and strangely satisfying)
Highly recommend etsy, using keywords like 'dainty' or 'tiny' - you can filter by item location to UK if you want to support local sellers.
Or Notonthehighstreet - again, you can filter by uk sellers.

Macaroon Jewellery (can buy direct or via Not on the High Street)...very delicate silver jewellery. I've got a few pieces from there, delicate but can be worn everyday.
