Going to a spa day & my legs are awful

I'm going to a spa day in a very nice place soon. I'm quite overweight. My ankles are swollen & my shins are discoloured from bad circulation. My friends don't judge, but I don't want other people looking at me thinking eww, what a mess.
I didn't care on the beach as its so much more open spaced.
Would I look ridiculous wearing a costume & swim leggings to a spa?
Although they are worn by Muslim women for religious reasons to cover up, I think their modest swimming costumes are a boon, they cover a multitude of sins! They cover too much though, I think I would be too hot if my top half was covered up. It's just my legs.
Shall I just brazen it out or cover myself up with swim leggings & a swimming costume?

Wear the swim leggings if it will make you feel more comfortable - have a fab time!

FranticHare · 24/10/2023 13:14

I think you will feel more self conscious covering up with leggings, rather than just wearing a swim suit.

Perhaps get a wrap / sarong instead?

catgirl1976 · 24/10/2023 13:16

No one will look at you and think ewww. They will all be too busy thinking everyone is looking at the bits of them they feel insecure about and going eww. But if the leggings will make you feel more comfortable then wear them. Have a lovely time

Where whatever you are comfortable in. Swim leggings and a bikini top sounds perfect.

I much prefer shorts style bottoms. I'm perfectly happy with my body but don't feel comfortable with the cheesewire gussets! I wore a one piece with mid thigh legs to a spa recently. I was comfy, I enjoyed it. (Plus my bottom half was submerged most of the time!)

SM4713 · 24/10/2023 13:17

I'd just take or hire a long dressing down for walking around. Surely if you are in a swimsuit, its because you are just getting in or out of the pool/jacuzzi?

JustALittlePotatooo · 24/10/2023 13:18

I would wear a normal swimming costume, whatever that may be in your case, and then just make good use of the robes when walking about if you're feeling self-conscious :) Don't worry about it too much, try to enjoy the day instead of overthinking!

I'm overweight and still wear a bikini as I don't find swimming suits comfortable. Others just have to deal with it - they don't need to look if they don't like it.

SM4713 · 24/10/2023 13:19

I mean a toweling gown you see at spas!

InTheRainOnATrain · 24/10/2023 13:19

Won’t you be walking around in a giant bath robe most of the time? Usually you get given one and you take it off only to go in a pool so you’re ‘on view’ only for the 30-ish seconds it takes you to climb in. If you like saunas I suppose that’s the only time you might be sitting ‘exposed’ but I can’t think of anything worse than going in one in leggings- you’d probably be risking heatstroke! If you’re getting a massage you’ll need to undress anyway but it’ll just be you and the therapist. So not sure what the leggings would achieve really.

oreo2020 · 24/10/2023 13:19

How about wrapping from the waist down in a flowery lightweight scarf? Not that it would bother me tbh.

Sandalholidays12 · 24/10/2023 13:20

I think you will draw more attention to yourself OP. What about a cozzi with a swim skirt I saw a lady on holiday weae one and it was quite pretty.

thesugarbumfairy · 24/10/2023 13:28

You are NBU but I don't think anyone will give a monkeys. You will probably be quite uncomfortable in leggings as well.
I am pretty big. I had a swimdress but it billows out in my boob region like a float in the pool at the spa and I have to hold myself down , so I got a tank and swimshorts instead and its much better and also covers the top of my thighs (although all of my thighs are pretty grim but I feel better with at least the top covered) Plus it depends what's at the spa, but in the steam rooms no-one can see anything anyway. Try and just enjoy being with your mates

Lavender14 · 24/10/2023 13:33

I understand why you feel the way you do but I agree with others who've suggested that wearing leggings etc will draw more attention. I'd be brazen and honestly I don't think anyone would pay any attention. It also depends on what you're getting during the spa day. If you do anything like a mud chamber or get treatments etc you'd need to take leggings off to get the full benefit of the treatment and because you'll be wet if you have a dip in the pool. I'd go for it to make sure you get the most of the experience you deserve to have a lovely time!

Shayisgreat · 24/10/2023 13:45

I go to a spa quite regularly. I have cellulite, bruises, and chunky legs. The first few times going were really nerve-wracking but the more often I go the more obvious it's becoming that nobody else there is looking at my legs/body never mind thinking about them.

Do whatever feels comfortable for you so that you enjoy yourself but I promise nobody cares what you look like.

Roiesin57 · 24/10/2023 17:17

Thank you all for your advice. I think I'll get a cossie with a bit of a skirt & brazen it out. I'd forgotten about the bathrobe they give you too

I'd be more self conscious wearing swim leggings. Could you not take your own long, white toweling robe and a sarong wrap for the bottom half?

EmptyYoghurtPot · 24/10/2023 17:20

I mean this in the nicest way, but no one is looking at you. And even if they do, you’ll never see them again. Go and enjoy yourself
