Anyone coming home through JFK in next 30 days?

And could do me a huge favour?

posting here for traffic.

I’ve just returned from NYC and I left my kindle on the plane on the way over there and it’s been handed into JFK lost property. Didn’t realise until I was home. The only way I can get it returned is either by collection or FedEx which will cost more than the price of the kindle!

if anyone is passing through JFK in the next 30 days I’d be so grateful if you could pick up my kindle and then post it back to me when in UK (I’d pay any postage of course).

thanks in advance!

I realize you are probably genuine, OP, but I would never bring a stranger’s belongings through customs and I don’t think anyone else should either.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 24/10/2023 03:49

Agree, don't think this would be recommended at all!

Earlyinthenight · 24/10/2023 03:58

Oh ok, fair enough. Was just trying to think of solutions to get it back but think I’ll just have to buy a new one eventually😢 so mad at myself for not realising until I got home!

It could be worth ringing Amazon. They were very sympathetic when I washed my kindle in the washing machine and gave me a very good deal on a new one... just over half price from memory...

SequentialAnalyst · 24/10/2023 04:06

Don't suppose it happens to be covered by an insurance policy? Sometimes they add cover for some unlikely seeming things. Anyone know whether this is a possibility?

Earlyinthenight · 24/10/2023 04:11

ill try Amazon tomorrow - still on nyc time here hence being awake in the middle of the night!
i will also check insurance but I’m thinking excess might be more than cost of new one. For reference kindle was I think £60 When I bought it but now for same one it’s £85 and for fedex international shipping it’s $130 which seems insane when it’s a tiny lightweight kindle. My own fault I know but still kicking myself as won’t be able to buy another until after Xmas and I use it almost daily at home.

I know it’s not the same (and you might already know this) but you can download the kindle app onto your phone or any tablet and link it to your Amazon account to access any books you’ve bought through them.
It might keep you going until you can get it returned or replaced. I’ve never got round to buying a kindle because my phone is so convenient!

curtaintwitcher78 · 24/10/2023 05:26

Do you know that in the meantime you can use the Kindle app on your phone? If you log in you should be able to access your library.

pumpykins · 24/10/2023 05:44

For £60, I think it's a write off

Don't bother with a new kindle. Just use the app

Aintnosupermum · 24/10/2023 05:45

FedEx to the UK is ridiculously expensive. USPS, which is the post office, is much more affordable. It’s about $50 or so. You also need to sweet talk the lost & found person by paying them $50 to get it mailed over.

coveredindoghairs · 24/10/2023 05:48

Reading on an e-reader is much nicer and easier on the eyes than reading on a phone, but the app on your phone may do in a pinch. They will likely have some sales coming up soon. Before Christmas, though.

RubyRubyRubyy · 24/10/2023 07:20

It's Black Friday soon so you might get a food deal then

RubyRubyRubyy · 24/10/2023 07:20

A good deal not a food deal

MAY324 · 24/10/2023 07:22

I got a kindle for £35 lady Black Friday! Definitely worth holding out until then x

Yajebbend · 24/10/2023 07:27

I would bring it if I was coming through. But I’m not unfortunately

Earlyinthenight · 24/10/2023 08:48

Thanks all! I do have the kindle app that I can use in the meantime but like someone said it’s not as nice as the kindle!

ill hold out for Black Friday and hopefully get a good deal then

I'm going but not that soon, like a good few months away. I'd have brought it back for you but I don't suppose they keep hold of lost property for that long :(

Earlyinthenight · 24/10/2023 10:39

@AnaisMae ah that’s really kind of you but no they don’t, the email said they would hold for 30 days. Thank you so much though
