who should organise 30th party

step son is 30 next year and states that as he arranged his dads 60th birthday party this year (he was not asked to do so) his dad should arrange his 30th birthday party next year. I feel that his partner and mother to his children should be responsible for arranging this party, he is after all a grown adult now?

I organised my own 30th so personally I don't see why he can't do it himself if he wants a big party.

But in lieu of that, yes it should be his partner or a group effort between her and his parents.

But equally i don’t think you should be rushing to make work for the mother of small children

We had a family holiday for my Dd's 30th birthday, it was a combined effort. So I think that it should be a collaboration.

What kind of celebration is he expecting?
Did he pay for his Dad's party?
Is he expecting his Dad to pay for his?

Maybe see what sort of event he is thinking of, and chat to his partner and armed with that knowledge consider what is reasonable and what you are prepared to do on that basis.
As pp suggested, it should be a joint effort.
