To be amazed how hard it is to use Microsoft Word now?

I'm not talking about using it to write stuff. But when it comes to saving the document, it's an absolute nightmare! That big black screen, with so many different options for what to do (and none of them very helpful). It's really not obvious how to simply save something to the desktop. It honestly looks like something from the 1980s, so clunky!

I really wish I still had my old version of Word which was so incredibly simple. It also had a nice bright background and saving to the desktop took about two seconds. Why have they made the save screen so complex to use - and why the incredibly basic looking background/graphics?

I know what you mean and find the whole of microsoft difficult to use now.

I really is like its gone backwards and I don't know why.

All2Well · 21/10/2023 21:16

I absolute hate all of MS. Makes my life so much harder.

DelurkingAJ · 21/10/2023 21:17

SharePoint is the bane of my life. You can sit next to someone and both have the same document open and not see the same text. Argh!!!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/10/2023 21:18

I suspect it's still better than having to endure the horrors of Google Docs and that monstrosity that is Sheets.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/10/2023 21:20

Ugh 365, Sharepoubt, new improved word and pp.

Why? It’s all too complex now. I hate 365. ‘This document is locked for editing’ because someone right next to you is working on it.

And as for collaborative working on the same document. It’s the pace of a snail.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/10/2023 21:22

And what really pissed me off is, at one time you could just copy and paste a picture and then move it wherever you wanted.

But now you have to copy and paste, select text wrapping and then proceed. Used to irritate me to death.

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/10/2023 21:22

Working for more than one company means that Teams is the bain of my life. Why make it so fucking difficult for people like me.

1jan2020 · 21/10/2023 21:27

I just don’t get it. Saving a document used to be such a straightforward process that took about two seconds. Like a pp said, with the clunky dark screen it feels like it’s gone backwards - by about 20 years! It really does remind me of an 80s computer screen now and I’m gobsmacked they have made it so much harder (and uglier) to use. I just cannot fathom the thought process behind it!

lt feels like most technology is getting simpler and more straightforward to use, and Word has suddenly gone in the exact opposite direction. Every time I use it I think, what on earth were they thinking?!

i prefer Microsoft word, but also use open office too

Spambod · 21/10/2023 22:06

Thank you for this post op thank god I’m not the only one who can’t even figure out how to save a bloody document anymore let alone find find the bastard.

RandomMess · 21/10/2023 22:07

Clearly none of you have the joy of Excel in SP

Ridiculous you can't do anything remotely useful unless you open into App then it randomly stops automatically updating and loses your work Angry

DIYandEatCake · 21/10/2023 22:09

I still miss the little paperclip character that told me how to do stuff (showing my age here!)

Hedonism · 21/10/2023 22:09

Gaaaaaah SharePoint. Kill me now.

I could literally do my job in half the time if we didn’t use Sharepoint.

Me too, though I changed mine to the cat.

AlwaysUnreasonablyFabulous · 21/10/2023 22:13

Oh I can totally save a document (adds that to cv) fart arse about with something else then try to find said document? Nope, not a chance. Off it fucks into some black hole Confused

RandomMess · 21/10/2023 22:30

That Paper Clip was an utter arse took us weeks to work out how to completely kill it off.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 21/10/2023 22:36

I was just thinking this the other day. I did my ECDL using Office 97 at the end of the 90s. It just seemed really intuitive compared to trying to do something now. I just can't find anything now easily, always end up having to use the Help function. Maybe I'm getting old and intolerant to new technology?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/10/2023 22:36

I’d forgotten that little paper clip. I was quite fond of it. Better than bloody 365.

Oh blimey, that takes me back!!

RandomMess · 21/10/2023 22:40

I am mourning the removal of Access 97.

Nowt like knocking up a database rather than a complex spreadsheet to replicate it which is still a rather dismal cousin.

StBrides · 21/10/2023 22:41

Print screen functionality got shit

Diymesss · 21/10/2023 22:42

Have you tried using keyboard shortcuts, e.g. Ctrl + S?

CardamomGarden · 21/10/2023 22:42

My pet Office hate is how my home version refuses to believe I have a valid licence to use it. I can click on the icon in Word that takes me to my account and see that I have a licence, and yet back on the same Word window I just clicked on all features are disabled because I don’t have a licence.

I need to keep opening and closing things until it randomly works. I have no idea what the key to it is.

Seems to have got better recently, but it’s still unreliable.
