AIBU to expect to be able to buy plus sized light grey tights?

It would certainly seem so!

I've been on Better and Snag with no luck.

When venting my frustration, my husband suggested that they're not in fashion, adding that my legs would look like Roman pillars should I manage to find some.

Am I unreasonable? Are light grey tights no longer "a thing"?

Light grey tights have never been a thing and unless it’s for Halloween fancy dress as a corpse, I don’t think anyone should wear them.

Catza · 21/10/2023 12:27

Have you checked Calzedonia? They usually have a huge range of colours that you won’t see in other shops.
If you are looking for thicker tights H&M usually stock them in grey. If you are looking for thin nylon, then light grey is a terrible colour and I’m not sure it’s ever been a thing.

NotAnotherPylon · 21/10/2023 12:29

Roman pillars! Sorry but 🤣🤣🤣

bananaboats · 21/10/2023 12:29

Agree I don't think light grey tights have ever been 'in' and definitely aren't just now!

2pence · 21/10/2023 12:39

I'll have a look at Calzedonia, thank you.

I care not for fashion. If I find some then I'll start my own trend!

What's the name they have for those ugly 60s/70s concrete buildings? Brutalism? I'm determined to have brutal legs!

You asked were they no longer a thing. Posters have responded that light grey tights have never been a thing. I think I once had some dark grey woolen tights from M&S.

We wore light grey tights to school constantly in the 1970s

2pence · 21/10/2023 13:05

I can get the darker grey shades, slate or charcoal, from most retailers.

I do want the nylon ones though, 50 or 80 denier. There are wool ones and cashmere ones in light grey available, just not nylon it seems. I get too hot for those and I'm not a fan of the fuzzy leg.

Since I lost my waist (thanks menopause) I wear dresses and like to use tights to accent the colours in them, or tie in accessories. I wanted light grey because I have a couple of dresses with grey accents, otherwise my legs end up the same colour as my dress (usually navy).

Woolly or nylon?

I'm sure light grey nylon tights were about in the 80s too.

So you can buy them, you just don't like the fabric options?

Davros · 21/10/2023 14:52

Ordinary nylon tights, probably about 20 denier. There was much choice in thickness then

SweetFemaleAttitude · 21/10/2023 14:58

I have a pair in the colour above from m&s in XL. I'm a size 16-18 and there is still plenty of give in them.

They came in a pack of 3 though. Black, grey and maroon. I don't wear the maroon ones. I would like to, they just don't go with anything.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 21/10/2023 15:00

Meant to add. They are 80 denier.

2pence · 21/10/2023 16:07

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Went for the Amazon ones- I'm in the UK.

Totally loving the Foxy Tights though.

So who's joining me in this zombie-legged trend then?

Anyone?

Snag tights?

RantyAnty · 21/10/2023 17:02

I haven't worn tights, stockings, or pantyhose since maybe the 80s? I did always like how smooth and blemish free the super sheer nude shades looked. Don't miss the blasted runners in them.

I think we moved on to leggings.

Are leggings still in fashion or have we moved on to something else?

KimberleyClark · 21/10/2023 17:11

I’m glad you’ve had some helpful responses OP. Some have been quite needlessly unpleasant.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 21/10/2023 17:27

I have some I bought years ago and never wore them and now they’re too small. Some of them even have grey/silver glitter! Prob going in the bin one day sadly.

gotomomo · 21/10/2023 17:34

I wore grey tights to school so needless to say I will never wear them again!
