When did closing roads completely for roadworks with diversions of many miles become the go to rather than temporary traffic lights?
It's getting so bad around here that I now need to check Google maps before leaving home to check that straightforward routes I know well are actually open. I don't have Satnav in my car so if I encounter a road closure I can't automatically be redirected. The diversion routes are never properly signposted so you'll end up lost.
Have been out today and seen yet more advance notice signs about road closures but can't figure our why they don't just use traffic lights. They can't all be digging 3 foot wide trenches across the whole width of the road. In fact sometimes it's hard to tell what has been done once the road reopens! I appreciate workforce health and safety is always a consideration but the traffic lights and temporary speed limits would slow traffic down.
YANBU Most roadworks could be done without full road closure like in the good old days
YABU it's the only way to get the job done.
