AIBU to have not thought about Xmas gifts

I urgently need to start my Christmas shopping as we are now around half way through October and every other year I am normally well into it by now but this year DC and DH don’t seem to know what they want unlike other years and whenever I ask them they can’t think about it so I am thinking that nobody knows what they want. I would like to know now so that I can buy everything now because if I wait till December everything will be sold out with DC upset.

AIBU- I need to start Xmas shopping now and find out what everyone wants before it sells out and they are unhappy with me.

YANBU- I should wait and let them come to me with what they want because it can wait and I can get it in November or December.

My DC never know till much later. I focus on buying stocking fillers & stuff I know they will need, as well as stuff for wider family.

The only items sold out are usually those gifts that are the latest craze.

Saying if I wait till December everything will be sold out with DC upset. is a ridiculous statement. Toy shops are full to the brim with toys, as are supermarkets.

I agree. Often sizes or colours sell out quickly and even the latest games and toys can take 2/3 weeks delivery which means shopping in December is risky unless you’re buying bath fizzers or candles.

I don’t even buy for Christmas until mid-end November to make sure I have it sent off and it will get there in time for Christmas. I’m not stressing myself unnecessarily for one day out of the year. The only one who is going to have a request from our children is DS2 and whatever he picks is likely something I can get or order easily. Gift request from family members is soft play vouchers since both children don’t need any more books, toys, or clothes with DS2 having had his birthday and DS1 having his birthday a month after Christmas.

I don’t even think about Xmas shopping until December!

Are DC old enough to understand that popular things will sell out? If they don’t make up their minds until too late and the thing they want is gone then can you explain that to them. It feels like you are taking responsibility for their choice not to decide
