Hour and a half to mow the lawn!

DH has been mowing the lawn for 90 mins! don’t know how much he’s got left, but surely this is ridiculous. It’s about 50 foot x 25 foot of lawn.

Is he using nail scissors?

Pinkpinkplonk · 14/10/2023 17:02

Enjoy the peace!

Blarn · 14/10/2023 17:03

I imagine it's taking a lot to get the mower through and empty all the wet grass out. Ours needs doing but I know it would clog up the mower and take me a ridiculously long time

amiold · 14/10/2023 17:03

Why are you timing him??

Summonedbybees · 14/10/2023 17:05

Does your husband time you when you are doing something?

CountingDownTheHours · 14/10/2023 17:07

We got one of those little automatic mowers because it used to take DH an hour and a half to mow the lawn (quite a big one to be fair, which included emptying the grassbox every 5 mins). Its amazing and he now has time for weeding (which he hates, so I think he feels he may have shot himself in the foot...!)

MollyMarples · 14/10/2023 17:09

Because he’s left me with all the other responsibilities!

I’ve just been out. He’s half way through 😩

Wet grass is much slower to cut than dry grass.

Justmuddlingalong · 14/10/2023 17:12

So you think he's fannying about wasting time so you're left with everything else? You could suggest you swap if he's only half way through.

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 14/10/2023 17:17

Is he just mowing or is he edging and weeding and pruning also. I spent 5 hours out the front today and never even got grass cut, this was edging, cutting back all the roses and other plants, weeding 2 flowers beds, sorting out 4 hanging baskets and swapping all the dahlias pots with tulips pots. Need to do more tomorrow and then start back garden,.

2jacqi · 14/10/2023 17:24

he is hoping everything else is done by the time he finishes mowing the grass!! pretty sure we have all had this kind of behaviour from hubbies in the past!

looking4pup · 14/10/2023 17:28

I don't think my husband has ever cut the grass 😒

10HailMarys · 14/10/2023 17:32

My garden is smaller than yours and would easily take that long if the grass was damp and it hadn’t been done for a while. Mow it yourself if you’re that bothered.

ElinorDashwood68 · 14/10/2023 17:44

We have 1/3 acre garden and OH took an hour this afternoon. He said the grass was damp so took longer than usual

Wrongsideofpennines · 14/10/2023 17:47

Yeah damp grass takes ages. And if it's long then it will fill the box multiple times.

Greenpolkadot · 14/10/2023 17:50

Our ndn can spend all afternoon mowing his small lawn..and that doesn't include strimming the edges
He moves very very slowly..creeping along at a snails pace, his eyes glued to the grass .
It drives DH mad..it's a whole afternoon of noisy lowering.

Greenpolkadot · 14/10/2023 17:51

Sorry .I meant Mowering

BogRollBOGOF · 14/10/2023 17:54

My lawn got 3 cuts last weekend, 7, 4.5 and 2.5, done in stages as it's quicker that way than constantly clogging the box with long, wet grass, and breaks down better in the compost bin.

OhmygodDont · 14/10/2023 17:57

Takes a good two hours ish to do our rear lawn on a good dry short grass day. Could take much longer depending on length and how wet.

RedLolly101 · 14/10/2023 18:11

We have a lot of grass and DH has to use a petrol strimmer for the first cut and only uses the lawn mower in the summer months when it's fairly short.

If it's long and damp, I imagine your DH is cutting it twice. First with a longer cut to start off and then going back over it with a shorter cut.

AdobeWanKenobi · 14/10/2023 18:19

Took my other half nearly two hours this morning. It was desperate for its winter cut but is sodden and long making it a much bigger job than usual.

SecondUsername4me · 14/10/2023 18:19

So next time the lawn needs mowing, say "my turn, you can do the indoor jobs this time" and go do it.
