To be put off by the Israeli ads on Youtube

Just that really. I’ve noticed these adverts popping up in the last day or so and it’s really disturbing that they’re using propaganda to drum up support. The attacks were horrendous and Israel’s retaliation is predictable with equally tragic consequences in the making - I really don’t want to see adverts on top of it all, it’s in such poor taste.

Totally agree, it's disgusting, but not surprising.

Moonmelodies · 14/10/2023 12:33

What are they advertising?

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 14/10/2023 12:34

Some are very graphic. I wonder how the victim's families feel about images of their loved ones being shared in this way, as I doubt they got their permission.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 14/10/2023 12:34

What kind of adverts? Adverts promoting the Israeli military/ prompting people to sign up etc YANBU. Adverts advertising a product that originates or is produced in Israel, like Israeli oranges or something I’d say YABU.

Vettrianofan · 14/10/2023 12:36

No need to be so vague. What was the advert about exactly? Can't give a view either way without more details....

Faffandahalf · 14/10/2023 12:37

They are incredibly disturbing high propaganda videos from the state of Israel urging people in the strongest terms to support the state of Israel.
It’s some of the most overt, highly stylised propaganda I’ve ever seen. Very reminiscent of WW2 type stuff but being streamed to everyone who watches a YouTube video. They must be spending millions and millions of US money on it

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 14/10/2023 12:38

The ones I have seen (on MN of all places, although they seem to have stopped) showed graphic footage of Hamas atrocities (including a naked woman being paraded, for example), overlaid with messages about what Israel should do in response.

I doubt the victim's families would be comfortable with what it contained.

Faffandahalf · 14/10/2023 12:38

Rainbows and ponies background with twinkly music and then block red writing about how Israel needs your support and they will do whatever they want to exact revenge on terrorists and that we all too should be supporting them.

and then others with footage of attacks with same insane messaging and dramatic crescendo music.

TarantinoIsAMisogynist · 14/10/2023 12:40

Ah, OK, that's very different to what I was seeing a few days ago!

littleducks · 14/10/2023 12:41

I had these on Twitter, surprised others hadn't seen then and immediately known what was being spoken about as I just assumed everywhere was flooded with them based on what I had seen. Maybe I need an ad filter. They are adverts from Israeli government about the current conflict presenting their opinion that their actions are just.

Is it not totally obvious from the OP that it's not just normal ads for Israeli products?

ThreeB · 14/10/2023 12:47

They've been popping up in one of the game apps I play too.

UnquietMindless · 14/10/2023 12:52

There was another one which started off with a newsclip from CNN, where they interviewed a father who had found out his daughter had been killed in one of the attacks (his grief was heart-rending) but then followed up with the propaganda. It’s very manipulative.

OP posts:
YouJustDoYou · 14/10/2023 12:55

I've not seen a single one.

No, sorry, it wasn’t obvious to me. The OP doesn’t explain what the ads are and I haven’t seen them myself so wasn’t really sure what they would be. I have never seen any YouTube ads that weren’t for products, usually the ads I see when watching Youtube are for toys, make up, films etc or for stores or apps, the ads I see on YouTube aren’t that different from TV ads. I’ve never seen any political ads for any country before so although the OP does mention propaganda I wasn’t sure if she meant it literally, I have autism so am aware I can take things too literally and that it’s better to question what people mean rather than make assumptions. Maybe in this context it was literally Israeli propaganda, but as I’ve said I have never seen the kind of adverts played between videos before, usually they’re just adverts for products etc.

kannayya · 14/10/2023 14:13

The propaganda is they doing to the level, that as if Hamas commander gave a warning to world. Actually that is a very old video and edited in between too.

Israel is doing all this so that world should accept even they wipe out Gaza .

cochineal7 · 21/10/2023 20:52

Some of the ads are very, very graphic and some are played in content mostly watched by children - my daughter encountered one watching a best of X-factor video. Highly disturbing and manipulative and very inappropriate. Apparently they also show on kids apps such as Angry Birds.

MarieGirlMumX3 · 29/10/2023 09:20

When you’re in the business of weapons you’re in the business of war. And every business needs to advertise unfortunately.

MarieGirlMumX3 · 29/10/2023 09:24

That ad got tagged on twitter as not from the region and was actually taken from another war in a South American country years ago! Propaganda machine didn’t do its job properly.

hjohn10 · 01/11/2023 19:58

Hi all,

I am a journalist covering this issue of graphic Israel/Palestine adverts online, particularly on apps and videos targeted at children. Would be really keen to speak to anyone on what they or their kids have seen, can be quick and also anonymous if you prefer. Thanks!
