To be annoyed at Aldi middle aisle

I used to love aldis middle aisles full of junk. Went in for toilet roll and came out with ski boots, hockey stick and a violin.

All joking aside I've got some really good deals in the past especially for the children near Christmas.

The last few months have just been a disappointment, one aisle of the good stuff and the rest is just branded food that doesn't appear to be any cheaper then other supermarkets. If I wanted branded food I would go to Tesco.

is it just my local Aldi that this has happened to or are they all like this now??

I bought some frozen whitebait in Aldi about 3 or 4 years ago. It was so good. Literally never seen it again. (Was I the only person who bought it??)
DH got some in Morrisons and it was awful, it might still be languishing at the bottom of the freezer

I'd just be happy if I could buy their tins of cat food in jelly. They always seem to be run out no matter if I try first thing in the morning, over lunch time or late evening. There are 3 Aldi stores near where I live and none of them seem to ever have any left. My cats like it and aren't keen on various other ones I've tried to give them. They hate the ones in gravy a lot of shops do.

DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THE CAT FOOD SITUATION.

I've ended up on bloody Felix because the Aldi and Lidl ones that they used to eat became so unreliably available, and my cats are fussy whatsits, and now they won't go back.

My Aldi:

Yes to frozen mash [occasionally]

No to frozen mince, frozen sprouts, make-up [apart from face creams]

Middle aisles full of DIY, pet toys and branded goods sitting there like they're something special🤔

They had some lovely yarn recently.

ICanSeeMyHouseFromHere · 10/10/2023 10:17

To be fair, with the bond shampoo, they had part 2, but part 1 was missing in action for months, and then they got it, but hid it on the bottom shelf behind the shower puff things.. so I bought 3

Our middle aisle has been pants recently too.

Hardly anything other than branded food, that I can buy in Asda cheaper. My DD is coeliac and our Aldi doesn’t stock GF products so I have to go to Tesco/Asda anyway

And yes to cat food - my fussy PITAs like the blue pouches - they’re always out of stock.

I bought a lovely duvet set last week - the navy and white one with reindeer. Very Christmassy.
Would like to see more beauty products - they've had none of the perfumes that were dupes of expensive ones and no make up. If I wanted 600 varieties of Reece's peanut butter chocolate, I'd go to Asda!

Oh my god. Me too. It was fantastic. Never seen it again😭

I tried one of their lobster fancy things at christmas, hoping it might be of a similar quality. It was not.

As an aside what do you call the middle aisle? In my house it’s known as The Aisle of Bad Decisions!

Looking on the website, where it says buy in store ( not online)

Yes, they've stopped doing deliveries 😡

My local one's also stopped doing click & collect (they never delivered groceries, but you could get them to do your shopping for you).

It's depressing. The fun's leaking out of Aldi!

Tessisme · 10/10/2023 12:05

I have just sat and read this entire thread even though we don't have Aldi in NI. Sigh ...

As you were😆

PickleDig · 10/10/2023 12:20

Its,generally expensive and poor quality. Plus bad for the environment as often shipped half way around the world and just not needed!

This is why I switched to online grocery shopping, no unnecessary tat temptations.

Look! It's the only online shopper who's never clicked on the Home | George | Tu | Nutmeg tab 😂

True though, I do it on my phone so I have few temptations, my bank balance thanks me 😆

The George tab would be why DD1 is currently rocking bedding of Guinea Pigs in Halloween outfits... adorable!
