To ask if your accent is the same as your parents ?

I was born in London as were both of my parents. I moved to Spain from when I was 2 until 15 and picked up a Spanish accent. Although I can’t speak it 😬 ( lived in a very touristy area). Both of my parents accents didn’t change. I still have a slightly Spanish accent. People always find this so strange.

Is your accent the same as your parents if you moved abroad when you was young?

I sound Australian with a touch of London but only other Londoners pick it. I’ve lived in Australia for over 50 years. My parents had 2 different accents - one Yorkshire and one neutral South London. If I talk with someone with a Yorkshire accent I tend to echo them because they remind me of my mum. I wish I could speak French because I love it and love the sound of it but I can only manage a few words and phrases - no one here speaks it.

@HollaHolla

Of course 'everyone' has an accent, etc etc, but I think you've missed the point. That poster has been hounding another person, simply through not reading their posts properly. I've reported them now anyway.

I really wasn't missing the point.... I was just bringing it back to the topic of the thread. 😝

No.

My dad was Irish, my mum was a Londoner of Irish parents, we were all born and raised in London.

Obviously my dad had an Irish accent. My mum had a 'posh' London accent (RP in reality) which has been passed to my siblings. Unfortunately I got a rogue gene and speak broad London. It drove my mum spare. I was generally a well behaved child but it was my act of rebellion!
