To think some designs of voile are not the bad

Ive come across a lot of negativity on voile, both online and irl, and i had been out off them.
However I was in Dunelm earlier this week and saw some with designs and thought I could get on board with these.
I need some for privacy when the curtains are open.

Do what is the general consensus
AIBU - all designs of voiles should be avoided
AINBU - some designs of voile are fine

If you like them (I like some) then thats all that matters.

That’s true.

Some of our bedroom windows face due south. We have voiles in the summer to reduce glare. Windows open, they blow in the breeze.

On heavy humid days I can leave all the windows open and the voiles keep insects out. I'm not sure why people dislike them but have whatever you like. What other people think is irrelevant.

They also help with dust. I always had them usually the plain ones

massistar · 07/10/2023 09:28

We have plain ones in the bedroom so that you can't see straight in when the curtains are open.

Createausername1970 · 07/10/2023 09:38

I like voile. They let light in, but give privacy. I prefer them to net curtains as nets tend to be one colour (usually white) but I have some voile - from Dunelm I think - that have colours that compliment the curtains. It washes well too.

I like voile but sadly can't have it because the cats like to hang off it and it looks threadbare in a week.

Badtasteflump · 07/10/2023 12:20

I like them. I have some from Dunelm that look like linen, I think they were called linen-style. I stopped worrying about the home fashion police a long time ago 🙂

It's your home have what you like and what's useful to you.

I like cotton ones. Nylon ones look cheap and nasty though, ime.

theduchessofspork · 07/10/2023 13:03

I had to Google them but I think as long as they are non shiny (ie cotton or linen), non patterned and some variation on white or cream they are fine.

Freshstart78 · 07/10/2023 13:03

I always thought voiles were in. You can’t pick up a high end interior magazine without seeing some voile.

That is the full length floor to ceiling voiles though. Not the short window size on a rod old fashioned kind.

MatildaTheCat · 07/10/2023 13:07

I’ve got them on multiple French windows on swish tracks behind the long curtains. That way they can be pulled all the way across if it’s really hot and sunny or just enough to protect the curtains from sun damage on every other day. Linen effect and yes, I like them.

madamreign · 07/10/2023 13:07

I've got full on, lace curtains.

Sod it ☺️

HikingforScenery · 07/10/2023 14:26

Thanks all. You’re right. If I like them and want to put them in my home, I should.
Dunelm, here I come!
