To want to leave feedback about this on Vinted?

Ordered a bundle of plastic toys second hand. Obviously cheaper than new, but not by loads (probably paid just over half new price, plus postage). They were described as very good condition.

When they arrived, they were really worn, stickers all torn off (not visible in the one photo which was taken of everything from a distance). Worst of all was that they'd been played with outside (not an outdoor toy, sets of vehicles and figures) and were caked in mud and grime!

I complained to the seller, and they just said 'you should be washing second hand stuff'. My only option was to send them back (paying postage!) for a refund which I've done.

However, I'd like to leave a review to warn other buyers as they've just put the bundle back up, same price and description. But now I've been refunded it seems I can't leave feedback? Am I missing something?

Since I ordered, another buyer has complained of things being dirty so it's obviously a pattern.

Whatever makes you feel better.
Honestly, whenever I've left negative feedback I've ended up feeling pretty shitty about it when it's a small seller, even when it is absolutely warranted (like the time I bought trainers from a pet and smoke free home that stunk of cigarettes).

It's not unreasonable to want to leave factual feedback, but if the platform does not allow it then it's just a choice of if you trust the platform enough to continue to use it.

If this was me, I'd move on to the next thing in my life and be happy that I at least ranted about it online. Say I'd not use it again until the next time I saw something I liked and then forget all about it.

Plus, could be worse. They could still be able to leave YOU negative feedback. Can you imagine the indignation? Smile that you don't have to suffer that :)

First reply is weird.

YANBU to want to leave bad feedback for other buyers. I’d see if you can report to Vinted.

I’m going off Vinted a bit because I’ve found this is happening more and more often as it gets more popular - ie stuff being described dishonestly.

Bournetilly · 06/10/2023 19:51

If you return something there’s no option to leave feedback. I think they should change it as there’s probably a lot of sellers sending out items not as described but not receiving negative for it as the items have been returned, makes no sense. Also stupid that the buyer has to lose out on the shipping fee when returning items which aren’t as described.

Lorelaigilmore88 · 06/10/2023 19:53

Yes first reply is weird. If they are selling crap and lying about its condition, its fair that you give them a bad review and explain why.
I have bought stuff on vinted and I always check the seller reviews... it helps other buyers.

EachPeachPearNectarine · 06/10/2023 19:53

It's not about making me feel better, it's stopping someone else going through the same thing. I think their reaction said it all, if they'd been like 'oh gosh, now you say I do remember DC playing with it in the garden, I didn't notice the mud', and apologised etc it would be one thing, but they seem to think this is totally normal so I think anyone wanting what they're selling should be warned!

I thought being refunded means you can leave negative auto-feedback? Have you tried complaining to Vinted?
YANBU.

I'm lucky enough to have had none of the bad experiences described on here (fingers crossed I don't jinx I by posting as I'm buying most of my wedding stuff from there) but I don't but from sellers with a small number of reviews or any negative ones which aren't detailed /are petty.

Reviews are important!

Ah that's annoying that it's a standard thing, seems really stupid especially, as you say, you lose out on the postage costs when returning something.

eBay seems much better for buyer protection.

I will try complaining to vinted, it seems difficult to work out how to contact them though.

What's the minimum number of reviews you look for? This one has 36.

Literally

Beeswood · 06/10/2023 20:25

I know what you mean. I just bought a top on Vinted.
It arrived damaged with a tear in it and a chunk of material missing.
The seller says it was in perfect condition, so is accusing me of damaging it!
So annoyed I will have to pay the return postage and not be able to leave a review.

Meandermoanda · 06/10/2023 20:28

The flaw is with vinted... if you leave them bad feedback they can leave you spiteful feedback in return. So I wouldn't bother. It's a very flawed site when you run into an issue especially as you have to pay return postage. You should have been covered by not as described but it never works that way.

10 - but it's not just the numbers - I also look for positive reviews from humans i.e. not just auto-feedback. When people are pleased with items I find they usually comment and things like 'well packaged' let me know the seller is conscientious.

Having said that my methods aren't fool proof and I won't take the risk of more expensive stuff on Vinted. The most expensive thing I've gotten off there was my wedding dress for £25 but it was unbranded, meant to be used for photoshoots and arrived in a plain rectangular plastic bag - the kind normal clothes are stored in. I was prepared to lose the money if it didn't work out, but it did.

If it's not a saving of at least 70% not worth it IMO. I've probably just been lucky but I go in preparing to lose money and factor it in into the price I'm willing to pay.

Bournetilly · 06/10/2023 20:35

It’s not good for buyers protection really, I don’t know how they can justify charging the fee. As you say eBay is better for buyers protection but so many people use Vinted now. I wouldn’t sell anything expensive on Vinted though.

Jesswebster01 · 06/10/2023 20:50

I would leave the negative feedback it's not hard to wash before sending them I'd never send anything full of mud. It's so annoying the way vinted works. I bought a girls clothes set the seller sent out the wrong item and I had to pay to return it. Il be leaving them bad feedback as they also ignored my messages

Startyabastard · 06/10/2023 21:02

It can be difficult getting the attention of Vinted management.
However, i've been successful alot of times when returning a faulty item and not having to pay the postage.

THisbackwithavengeance · 06/10/2023 21:52

Yep. The chancers and pisstakers are slowly migrating from eBay over to Vinted and they will eventually ruin Vinted like they did eBay.

How did you manage to do that?

roseopose · 06/10/2023 22:17

The fact you can't leave feedback if you return makes it totally impossible to rely on reviews to decide whether to purchase from someone. I bought a water marked top that was new with tags from someone who had over 1000 4 and mainly 5 star reviews but that clearly doesn't mean she isn't also sending out total tat in the hope someone won't want to stump up to return it. YANBU

TheCave · 06/10/2023 22:45

I've noticed this. Vinted is a really dubious platform in my opinion, including for this reason. It's massively misleading. Not only do they no allow reviews to be left in this situation, but who knows if they block sellers who repeatedly deliver misdescribed items. Great when it works, but customer service is appalling and the platform does very little to protect buyers or sellers. Personally I wouldn't buy or sell anything worth more than about £30 on it because it's not worth the risk.

But if people don't want to return it then they can leave reviews - I've seen quite a few sellers with 1/2 star reviews where it was not worth returning so people kept the item and chose to review instead.
I agree that returners should be allowed to review. But I won't go so far as to say reviews are 'totally impossible' to rely on.
Also I don't go for people with just lots of auto-feedback I want to see at least a few human written reviews, with people saying things like great conditions, well-packaged etc etc. Maybe I'm missing out on some great sellers with very busy people who don't write reviews, but that doesn't matter to me.

I still agree with @TheCave it's not trustworthy enough to sell expensive items on (for that I do FB marketplace but even that has it's own shenanigans....). But... if you want to continue just some steps.

I'm wondering whether it also depends on the sort of stuff you buy?
I very rarely do clothes. I find that it's not worth it for cheap stuff as shops constantly have sales and I'm wary of buying expensive things.

But for things like household decorations and wedding stuff (that I'm currently using it for) things tend to be as described...

han01uk · 07/10/2023 15:02

You can't. If they are returned and refunded (sometimes not even by the seller but by Vinted if the seller goes mute.. this has happened to me..) you still can't leave negative feedback! It's stupid..

I am struggling with this now on Vinted. Bad sellers are getting away with s* as a result.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/04/2024 17:36

I had an odd vinted experience this week. Seller listed as new without tags. When it arrived it was muddy and beaten up. Clearly well used. When I politely raised it with the seller, she got very rude and defensive. Told me it was cheap and what did I expect. I thought well it wasn’t that cheap, and it wasn’t as described.

If I leave a negative review I know she will leave a shitty one for me. She was so rude in her reply’s to me. I’m leaving it and moving on, but it has made me more cautious.

Swirlymist · 10/04/2024 17:50

I don’t understand why so many buy on vinted. It is the ebay of years ago, and has a long way to go to catch up with ebay. Sellers reign on vinted, just as they used to do on ebay before proper buyer protection was implemented.
