Or are they brilliant? Trying to decide whether to buy one or not.

I like to monitor my resting heart rate - for no reason whatsoever.
I don’t use mine for its full potential !

StillWantingADog · 05/10/2023 19:50

Depends really. I have a s3 which is quite old now.
I find the fitness tracking excellent. And the way it talks to Strava.

the notifications are useful but can be annoying if you get a lot of texts/whatsapps/emails/dms

applepay is def useful if you don’t want to take your phone/wallet everywhere.

Fightyouforthatpie · 05/10/2023 19:50

Too expensive.

movinghouse23 · 05/10/2023 19:51

I forgot to add that I'm not particularly sporty or active but I would like to be.

@Fightyouforthatpie see that's what I worry about. It seems like a lot of money for a watch but I don't know if anyone can convince me that it's worth it!

I use mine all the time for payments. Have bank cards plus Revolut card on it. Also alarms. Plus all the fitness stuff.

Snickerrs · 05/10/2023 19:58

Worth every penny. It’s really motivated me to exercise more, seeing the impact of every little counts. I wouldn’t be without it now.

theduchessofspork · 05/10/2023 19:58

I like it for the health circles - very satisfying to complete

for reminding me to stand up and move (desk job).

It’s fitness that’s makes it worth it for me, but timers very handy as it keeps me from reaching for my phone, and paying for stuff

I’m glad I bought one (slightly discounted older model), but there are probably cheaper options that do the same

Aposterhasnoname · 05/10/2023 20:11

Wouldn’t be without mine. I’m no athletes, but closing the circles every day has become a bit of an obsession, which cant be a bad thing. Like having my heart rate monitored and it’s very satisfying to get notifications that my resting heart rate is down. Outside of the fitness stuff I use it for directions when I’m walking, controlling my music, and talking to DH on the walkie talkie. Timers are great, and notifying me that I’ve left my phone behind has saved me more than once, and that’s before I mention Apple Pay, warning me when it’s about to rain and remotely controlling the camera.

And if all that isn’t enough for you, then the snoopy watch face is the best thing ever. Trust me!

LuckOfTheDrawer · 05/10/2023 20:13

I sometimes like mine for hourly alarms, fitness stuff, and paying for things.

But mostly, I don't wear it.

Bertiesmum3 · 05/10/2023 20:14

Best fitness watch I’ve had, always used Fitbit, so glad I changed recently to Applewatch

Pixie2015 · 05/10/2023 20:14

Love mine as have the ability to make and take calls - as always forget where I put phone - great for running

QuizzlyBears · 05/10/2023 20:16

Biggest waste of money I’ve spent in recent years - it’s in a drawer and I’m debating selling it. It’s chunky, impossible to wear with delicate looking straps and brings down the tone of every outfit apart from sportswear.

BubblyBubbler · 05/10/2023 20:18

Saved my life, twice. One time it had an alert that my heart rate was too high, I didn’t realise how poorly I was, turns out I had sepsis. I wouldn’t have sought medical help as I thought I had the flu if the watch didn’t alert me to it.

second time same thing, had an alert and turns out I had pulmonary embolism.

Lavenderosa · 05/10/2023 20:19

I love mine - use it for fitness (in truth trying to become fit!) as I have zero self-motivation and the watch bosses me about "Time to Stand" :) You set your own daily targets for movement (calories used), workouts and standing and then do the happy dance when you hit your targets before bedtime because the watch does a firework display! I need that external validation to keep me going and it links to my iphone, which I find useful. The version I have can track my resting and active heartbeat, tell me how fit I am for my age and loads of other stuff eg it monitors how regular my heartbeat is. It's expensive but cheaper than a gym membership you won't use after 6 weeks.

Blueuggboots · 05/10/2023 20:19

Since I got one, it has definitely encouraged me to be more active.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/10/2023 20:22

I love my current Nokia/Withings one. Looks like a standard analogue watch, has steps, notifications, heart rate. And the battery lasts weeks.

I need to replace so tell me with what. Another Nokia, Apple, Fitbit? It's all so confusing.

RustyBear · 05/10/2023 20:35

I love mine, I use it for
Apple Pay, much easier than getting either your phone or a card out,
loyalty cards in the digital wallet so I don’t have to carry them any more
email/text/whatsapp notifications so I can do a quick check to see if I need to read it right away
fitness - nags me to get up & move every hour, as well as recording my workouts
finding where I’ve put my phone
timers
weather notifications- tells me when it’s going to rain (very accurate)
remote for iPhone camera

GingeNinga · 05/10/2023 20:46

I have an older Apple Watch and contemplating upgrading to the latest - the SE’s are now a great price, but I’m tempted with the advance heart monitoring on the series 9 (family with heart problems).

I love the goals, reminder to stand and get moving about each hour (desk based job).
I’ve recently started at the gym and used it to track my work outs too.

its also handy for cycle tracking etc.

like a previous poster, it isn’t very dainty and doesn’t go well when trying to dress up etc, admittedly I’ve also got the dark grey case and black sports strap, so they does make it worse!
