AIBU to ask you to call me a stupid effing idiot

I recently posted something for sale on Facebook, a household item for £10. A former colleague got in touch and said she wanted it. We agreed she’d come to my work (where she used to work) to pick it up today. We both live about a half hour drive from the work place, but in opposite directions.

When she walked into the office this morning my heart sank. I had forgotten the item. I apologised a lot and said she could have it for free if she came back. She was clearly annoyed and I don’t blame her. I highly doubt she’ll come back for it as a freebie.
It has ruined my day, I have a sick feeling in my stomach for being forgetful and messing her around.

Please call me names.

If it was me, before setting off half an hour out of my way, I would have texted a reminder. Life is busy. Don't beat yourself up x

captncrunch · 05/10/2023 18:47

I mean don't beat yourself up, you stupid effing idiot 😉

WetBandits · 05/10/2023 18:48

Ah don’t beat yourself up, we’ve all done it! I’d text her a sincere apology and offer to cover her wasted fuel but you don’t need to grovel Flowers

Autumnbear · 05/10/2023 18:48

Could you drop it at her house for her?

RowenaEllis · 05/10/2023 18:49

Post it to her?

Rainbowraisin · 05/10/2023 18:49

Half an hour isn't very far and if she comes back for it for free she won't be out of pocket on fuel. I agree with above, I would have text you to check too.
So you're both stupid effing idiots 😂

Oysterbabe · 05/10/2023 18:51

Deliver it to her.

margotrose · 05/10/2023 18:53

Can't you just drop it off at hers after work one day?

Blueeyedmale · 05/10/2023 18:53

These things happen especially when we are busy, don't beat yourself up over it and you don't need to be called any names

Alika · 05/10/2023 18:53

You're being a stupid effing idiot for worrying about it. 😉 Seriously though, it was an honest mistake, and it was a freebie. She can't really complain too much. Maybe see if she wants to come another time or arrange to meet halfway?

To be fair, it wasn't a freebie. She was paying £10 for it.

RaeHitsEbSire · 05/10/2023 19:00

I would take it round to her.

NeedToChangeName · 05/10/2023 19:20

That could have been so easily sorted - "I'm an idiot, I'll bring it to your house, since you're here, go round the office to say hello to everyone and swing by to say goodbye before you leave"

Steev · 05/10/2023 19:57

Just take it to hers.

Whatfreshhorrorstoday · 05/10/2023 19:59

Thank you everyone for the insults 😊

I really can’t take it to hers. I finish work at 5.30. Half hours to hers, then an hour back to mine, I wouldn’t be getting back for the kids til 7. And too big to post!

I did send a grovelly message and ask if she wanted to arrange something else and she just said ‘it’s fine’ so I’m reluctant to reach out again
