Just a little trim / neaten up. Usual hairdresser away on hol. Currently on a work trip in another city. Been meaning to get a haircut, so took the opportunity while away. People on the team think its "very brave". Surely hairdressers are trained to cut hair? Particularly when you've picked a highly rated salon and paying premium rates.

YABU - it is brave, you're mad
YANBU - its just hair, not like you're risking your life

YANBU, but you must have seen the 1000s of “hairdresser fucked up my hair” posts on here to realise that loads of women are fearful?

MidnightOnceMore · 04/10/2023 22:50

It is no more brave in a new city than your home city. Any new haridresser could be totally shit (speaking from bitter experience!).
It is only hair.

JaneJeffer · 05/10/2023 00:43

Entrusting yourself to anyone to cut your hair is an act of bravery. Even a regular hairdresser can fuck you up if they're having an off day.

SirenSays · 05/10/2023 00:47

A trim during a work trip is hardly brave. Risking a bad cut while trying to enjoy exploring a new city is a little different to that.

One of my best cuts was in another town at one of those walk in hairdressers. I was staying with a sick family member for several weeks and badly needed a trim, saw the salon and just decided to get it done.

GrumpyPanda · 05/10/2023 01:16

Depends on your hair surely. Whenever I've switched hairdressers it takes about 3 cuts for them to truly get how my hair works (fine wavy hair that need lots of lightening up from underneath).

BarbaraofSeville · 05/10/2023 05:35

Well seeing what minor annoyances people talk about 'terrified' of on here, perhaps it is brave to have your hair trimmed at a salon you haven't been to before.

Sounds like a practical use of spare time and it's only a trim.

VisionsOfSplendour · 05/10/2023 05:43

I think you're taking what they say too literally, it's making conversation, they don't really think you you're venturing into a warzone 😀

But many or even most women are unsure about a new hairdresser, you must know that

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 05/10/2023 06:02

I thought you were going to say you got a buzz cut.....
If it was only a trim then no big deal.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/10/2023 06:06

I have 'well behaved' hair according to multiple hairdressers. Even did some hair modelling in my youth because it's so easy to work with. Any idiot can cut my hair.

My cousin has wavy/curly hair that can look like anything fro sleek glossy beauty to a dog's dinner. She cried when her hairdresser moved. I've seen her with some really not OK cuts.

She'd be brave, I wouldn't be.

YANBU. A highly rated & V expensive salon is no better than any other, many people are just too busy following that crowd. Plus most people’s hair ain’t all that🐱

MintJulia · 05/10/2023 06:17

As the possessor of very thick, rat-tail straight hair that doesn't grow evenly, I've taken years to find someone who can understand what my hair will do after he's cut it. I had dozens of bad haircuts before that, by trained hair dressers.

But if you have lovely bouncy regular hair, lucky you. Enjoy your new cut.

Augustus40 · 05/10/2023 06:23

I cut my own these days as I bought a scissor set from Ebay. It has never looked this good in years! I do have curly hair though. Game changer.

This.
I’d be more likely to be reluctant in case I got a wonderful cut from a hairdresser at the other end of the country that I couldn’t then nip back to ever again!

YANBU
I find it irritating how some women go on about how special their hair is and how they can only get it cut by this one super-unique hairdresser 🙄🙄
