I saved the photo and uploaded it to the google app. Apparently it is an Eratigena duellica.

This was found in the UK, West Midlands, outdoors but I’m thinking not house spider due to it having black legs

Yes it’s a female. They grow very big, often twice the size of the males. Usually we only see the males. The females make a nest, usually stay hidden and then this is the season when the smaller males go looking for love.

I have a 'pet' giant house spider. I tolerate her existence. Barely. We have an unspoken rule that she doesn't move when I've seen her unless I've left my room.

I remember in one of our flats screaming as I lifted the washing up bowl out and a huge spider jumped on to my sleeve. Thought I'd managed to swish it down the plug hole but it did it to my now DH who also screamed 😂😂

I like them. I have quite a collection in my house. They have some sort of ecosystem going and I leave them to it. That's our deal. I leave them alone, they eat other things that I don't want in the house.

I am in the UK where any native spiders can do very little harm to humans though. I would feel very differently and be much more careful somewhere like Australia.
