To go on holiday in a campervan in Scotland in October?

We can never afford it in the summer and have found a good deal. I get that it will be slightly colder and dark at 5 pm. But that means we can have camp fires at a reasonable time for the kids! AIBU? Will it be terrible?

Where are you spending your first night?

Sounds amazing to me. As long as you go prepared with warm / waterproof clothing it’ll be fine. I’m presuming it’s a modern camper so will have heating etc so it’ll be lovely a cosy. Plan easy, quick and comforting meals and it’ll be bliss. I’m very jealous!!

This thread has made me laugh so much. We live somewhere in the highlands that is very well known. We’re incredibly fortunate to see the trees change colour with the seasons on the hills and we swim most days in the loch at the bottom of our garden.

Most camper vans and motor homes have heating for goodness sake. A lot of people come up here for Hogmanany and survive.

The only advice I will give is don’t be stupid on the hills and that’s purely selfish as DH is MR.

We go to arran every October and at least half the week are usually able to be out in just jeans and a t-shirt. Have had glorious sunshine loads of times.

We've gone out in our folding camper in Oct half term in Scotland the last 2 years, it's essentially a big tent! Although does have a fan heater. We've been fine - we take very cosy PJs, lots of warm bedding and thick socks and woolly hats for sleeping.

Very funny thread 😆 We’re in Edinburgh and some years see barely any snow. My
DCs like autumn best - it’s atmospheric and up into Perthshire and over to Aberfoyle will be stunning rain or sun. Only thing that would bother me is where to dry wet coats but if you have a solution for that then all good.

Sounds lovely to me OP.
I would much rather an exhilarating holiday like this than frying in the insane Southern European temperatures.
But horses for courses I guess.
