We moved into a rented property in July. Eye watering rent as basically landlord can charge what they want due to lack of properties on the market.
Recently discovered that neighbour is building a massive two storey extension to his house and also literally rebuilding the inside of it. This will be many months of work as he seems to be doing it himself (builder by trade). We discovered this as we received the planning application.
He has not said anything to us and started drilling out foundations today. Noise is horrendous and lorries have been bringing materials and blocking the tiny road to our cut de sac. I work from home btw!
I don’t know if landlord was aware this was taking place but I’m a bit suspicious that he moved abroad to live with family after trying to sell the property for many months prior to trying to rent it out. He lied saying that he wasn’t intending to sell but we got letters from estate agents when we moved in saying that property had been taken off market, can we sell it it for you!
AIBU to be mightily pissed of that we will have to put up with noise and disruption for many months while paying through the house to live here, while the landlord lives in peace with us paying his mortgage?
