To want to drop kick dp in the guts ( light hearted)

Came home from work to a very excitable DP telling me with great delight "I've done the weekly shopping love, that'll save you running out later" now. While I was part glad that this was done with all this storm business outside, I actually really enjoy a wee mooch round Tesco but such is life. My second question was then how much did you spend? He then told me he spent £97 in home bargains £110 in Iceland and called to Lidl and got some bits there too. Now while that probably doesn't seem much to some people this is extortionate to us and far, far more than I would spend. To make matters worse he has bought the biggest pile of shite - think chicken nuggets, pizza etc there's no actual meals it's all just stuff that doesn't amount to meals, ie no rice, no curry sauces, no pasta no beans and nothing really that the kids are allowed to bring for lunch! I'm absolutely raging he has spent over £200 and there is nothing to actually make for dinner? Lots of components but not a complete meal.

He can't understand why I'm a bit annoyed but I'm ready for murder 😆

That would wind me up 🤣🤣

Honestly I can't look at him without wanting to slam his head in the microwave

Does he not normally do the shopping? What possessed him to do it this time, and just to buy junk?

AnSolas · 27/09/2023 20:05

Did he at least get you a bottle of wine so that you could down your sorrows in one gulp???🤷

🍿

whaataguy · 27/09/2023 20:09

No I always do the shop- I'm very organised and I like to get value for money and think ahead about each evening and maybe have a few meals that will do for lunch the following day etc. I have no idea why he bought all the frozen pizzas etc, I mean yes a pizza is great for handiness on busy nights but I'm not sure if my digestive system will
Cope with nuggets and chips for the next 8days 🙄 he's such a plonker

My niece was working in a supermarket for the Summer and was amazed at the stuff people brought back. Presumably he has the receipt so maybe send a pile back with a list of suggested replacements

Bridgingthefeckingmassivegap · 27/09/2023 20:27

He took on the job, he needs to see it to completion. Ask for the meal plan for the next however long and what's for lunches etc. When he realizes the gaps, it's on him to come up with something.

Is there literally nothing decent in it though, or just not what you would have gotten?

Trianglesandcircles1 · 27/09/2023 20:32

But isn't pizza with chicken nuggets on the side a valid meal?
😳

Tilllly · 27/09/2023 20:41

My DH isn't allowed to shop without a list for this very reason

LMAO 😂 I feel for you sister! It's cute in a way to think he thought he was helping.....but still

whaataguy · 27/09/2023 21:18

@Trianglesandcircles1 I mean of course pizza and nuggets is a great wee meal for when it suits but in my head I was having lasagna and salad, baked potatoe, pie and beans, spaghetti and garlic bread lol

I'm sure my kids will be chuffed though 😆

OP posts:
whaataguy · 27/09/2023 21:20

@OnlyBoobsandBabies I know this is the thing, I'm so grateful that he did it especially when he genuinely ment well. It's more the extreme cost rather than what he bought. Ie had he spent £40 on this sorta stuff I'd have laughed 😬

lasagna and salad, baked potatoe, pie and beans, spaghetti and garlic bread

you'll get the competitive "look at a lettuce leaf once a year" type come rushing out to tell you there's double carbs on two of those and the salad should be a large green salad... 🙄

whaataguy · 27/09/2023 21:26

@HollieHobbie 😆 I forgot my salad should be large and green, shame it's actually non existent at present 😂

If I give my OH a list he will miss stuff off it 🙄

Jantlet · 27/09/2023 21:33

Aw bless him!

My kids still look back with fondness to the time I was in hospital and Daddy did the shopping….the freezer is full of boxes, they told me delightedly at visiting time.

mycatsanutter · 27/09/2023 21:37

Yea I'd be mad too , my DH was the opposite , he did the food shop once for a week for a family of 4 and spent ..... £37 😂

ACertainKindOfLight · 27/09/2023 21:39

I work in a supermarket and it is actually painful having to deal with some of male customers who believe they are helping to do the shopping.
They tend to spend more time on phone to partner checking they have correct item or stressing if it's out of stock, can't find it, or worse still handing me the bloody list and expecting me to be their personal shopper .

Seriously79 · 27/09/2023 21:47

I get this all the time when DH goes to the co op down the road and comes back with their deals. It's all stuff I don't eat and don't really want the kids eating.

He's so proud of himself and posts on the family WhatsApp how proud he is of his bargains 🙄

Gypsum5 · 27/09/2023 22:04

How, did he manage to spend that amount in those shops? My H would buy chocolate, cakes, biscuits & sweets. According to him, we have nothing to eat if there’s not loads of that rubbish in the cupboard. I’m so annoyed because I’m forced to eat it too.

They don't resell it though so they? Don't they just count it as waste?

fivelilducks · 28/09/2023 21:01

That would wind me up and there's probs be a loud discussion about it 😂😂 my dp has recently taken over the kitchen, plans and prepares all meals. I feel incredibly lucky, he needs to do better!
