Does anyone else find this change of season particularly unsettling?

I know every year autumn hits. But this year for some reason I’m finding the dark and colder nights a bit unsettling? Might be the windy weather and storms but it’s making me a bit scared at night time?! Anyone else feel a bit spooked? Random sorry

Yes! It seems to have arrived very suddenly. Also the size of the spiders that seem to have started appearing are terrifying and definitely unsettling….I feel like I normally enjoy the start of autumn but it feels ‘off’ this year.

I agree OP. Could be because there wasn't much of a summer this year and not that many long light evenings. This autumn, wind, rain and dark evenings seem to have arrived earlier than usual.

I love autumn. I can now wear my handknits, scarves and boots. Yippee

Not me...🤔

It's cosy at present, as really windy where I am. Nice when you're snuggled up in bed. Can't believe I had the electric blanket on last night !

I agree. Only a couple of weeks since the lovely week of warm sunny weather but now windy and dark. I always get melancholy for a while as the nights draw in but this year seems to be early and sudden.

Yeah, I'm hating it this year, it's come on super suddenly. I am more of a spring person generally though.

The fantasy autumn narrative of crisp outdoor weather and cosy jumpers etc. is all very well but it's not really like that where I live, just wet and dark and spidery with a gloomy vibe.

I LOVE IT. Im a pink, ginger haired sun-dodger and love autumn clothing, clouds, cosy indoor activities , dark evenings, love all of it. I get more migraines in the summer. The decking birds wake me up despite ear plugs.

The turn in the seasons is an utter relief for me!

I love it, feels more "normal" in some way to me. I thought last year it seemed to descend all at once, warm light then suddenly cold dark. Seems more gradual this year. I do feel for people who hate it, been such a shit summer for the most part.

@WhichOfThePickwickTripletsDidIt I'd also say I've hated the weather this year going back to the cold winter when we were were trying to be economical with the heating. I like spring and I used to like autumn but I agree, the reality doesn't live up to the fantasy. July was a wash out wasn't it? We had 6 day heatwave where I went away in my camper van at short notice and did a lot of walking - that was brilliant - the highlight of the year for me. After last year's 4 months of wet and muddy weather 2 months either side of xmas I am really not looking forward to the same period coming up - I'd like to organise myself to spend 90 days abroad - maybe Spain or at least a month in France to visit my sister - I'm really sick of the rain - I'm fine with cold weather or even the wind - you can dress for that but getting back home after a dog walk with wet and muddy clothing and footwear (and a dog that needs to be bathed before I will let her back in the house) every single day for 4 months is a depressing thought. I'm in Scotland ATM and the weather is awful - there have been nice spells but the weather changes every half hour and the forecast is constantly changing.

One of my favourite moments and film quotes is from White Mischief - I actually long for this - set in Kenya an the eve of WW2
