I’ve been invited to a wedding in Nashville in November. I hardly ever travel as I have two small kids and haven’t flown since 2016. I would quite like to go and we can just about afford it.

However, I can’t help but thinking that really I shouldn’t because of the climate crisis. Every day in the news there seems to be a flood, more species getting extinct, higher temperatures around the world.

If I go, I’m just contributing to it all, aren’t I? Can someone help me make a decision.

You hardly ever travel.... you aren't the problem or even a big part of it

Go!

Dibblydoodahdah · 23/09/2023 19:17

Well I usually fly three times a year but am only planing two trips next year so have one of mine. There you are, fixed it for you!

Adreno · 23/09/2023 20:07

If you have two children, you need to stop pretending that the environment is a serious consideration for you.

Timmytap18 · 23/09/2023 20:12

If you want to go then just go. That plane is flying to Nashville regardless 🤣

Also im jealous, I really want to go there!

category12 · 23/09/2023 20:14

Do something to offset the impact of your flight to ease your conscience?

Offset your flight - atmosfair

The flight will go with or without you.

Really? It’s not as simple as that though is it?

If no-one has children, we’d all be stuffed.

Ah, you see, I never get this argument and personally think it is a little ill judged.

If all women in my age category 35-45, choose not to fly on non essential trips, say over the next 5 years, surely then that will reduce demand. There will be less planes flying if we all vote with our feet.

Haven't flown since 2006..won't again. So go for me op.

PinkRoses1245 · 23/09/2023 22:36

it seems like you don’t want to go. But if you haven’t flown since 2016, you taking this flight really isn’t the problem.

MisschiefMaker · 23/09/2023 23:33

It depends on whether you're one of those people who whitter on about climate change and how awful it is and moralise about how "something has to be done". If you are, then no you shouldn't go.

MariePaperRoses · 24/09/2023 00:01

All those that preach about climate change have absolutely no problem flying in private jets all over the world.

Go to Nashville and enjoy it.

I'd go. I haven't flown for over 10 years. But going on one trip since 2016 isn't the problem. Business, private jets, excessive food miles is, amongst other things. Go and enjoy it and don't feel guilty.

DivingForLove · 24/09/2023 00:56

Charles & William are lauded as being climate champions and they take 20 helicopter flights and travel the world in private jets. So take the flight and tell yourself you’re being a climate champion 😄

Mountaineer0009 · 24/09/2023 01:00

big tech will save the earth, enjoy your trip @Mysteriousgirl2

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 24/09/2023 01:01

You going on this trip won't make the slightest bit of difference to climate change. Stop feeling guilty and go and enjoy yourself.

elderflowerandpomelo · 24/09/2023 01:06

Can it be special enough?? Will you enjoy it enough? It doesn’t sound as if it’s a super-important occasion for you.

if that’s the case, don’t go. You’re so
right about climate, and nobody wants to make the changes that are needed.

so: go if it really matters to you, and you’d hugely regret not going. Otherwise stay home.

elderflowerandpomelo · 24/09/2023 01:08

And on the child point - they are here now. That’s a made decision. What matters is
the decisions tou still make, not the ones already taken.

Don’t be an idiot. The birthrate is dropping, some children do need to be born.

penpep · 24/09/2023 01:53

Doesn't make a difference. Are you just looking for an excuse not to to? Maybe you can't afford it?
