No photos of my child

DC nursery uploads a weekly report on what the children have been doing at nursery that week including a host of photos. This is the only insight into to get to see your child in the room as drop of and collection is all at the front door . So each week I look forward to seeing what she's got up to.
This week there were plenty of photos and she wasn't in a single one!!
Aibu to think they should ensure each child gets in at least one photo? There were multiple photos of some of the other children (like 5 photos of one kid doing the same activity!)

No. Nursery staff have enough going on without making sure every single child is in photos. Our nursery does this and there are some weeks DD isn’t in it but this week she’s in it loads. It’s swings and roundabouts. You still know what she’s got up to, the same as the other kids. Plus they also tell you at pick up.

rosyposycosy · 22/09/2023 18:28

I agree they have a lot to do, but if they've got time to take 60+ photos, I would expect DC to show up in one of them!

You know it takes significantly longer to go through all the kids and all the days they are in (because not all are Monday-Friday) and to work out if they have a photo of them, and if they do have a photo of them that they aren’t picking their nose or crying than just shove 60 photos in the newsletter with a description of the activity? Even then, you’d still end up with 5 pictures of George because he was playing with everyone and it’s the only way you could include a photo of Ezra, Isla, Thomas and Anna.

So where do you want the nursery staff to find these extra hours? Is it going to come at the expense of safeguarding, activity planning or activity delivery, ordering the food for the following week, checking the maintenance of the building? Or are you prepared to pay higher nursery fees to pay another member of staff to just follow the kids round, making sure they get a photo of every kid?

rosyposycosy · 22/09/2023 18:54

I expect if they're gonna choose that as their form of communication that it also includes me yes.

What if the child didn't want to ?

Then don't take a photo 😄

I get it OP.
I would be disappointed if my child wasn't in the photos too

YABU

Everything @PurpleBananaSmoothie said in both posts.

Wheelz46 · 22/09/2023 22:54

Maybe your child was in pictures with a child whose parents have not given permission to upload photos.

Nicesalad · 22/09/2023 22:58

I just don't see the need for nursery staff to take weekly (daily) photos of children. They should just be able to get on with their activities without having photos taken.

Ace56 · 22/09/2023 23:00

If it’s only this week, it’s no big deal. If it happened often I’d be annoyed too

JustAMinutePleass · 22/09/2023 23:03

They tend to pick problematic / clingy kids for pics at my son’s pre-school. If you routinely don’t get many pics it’s a good thing!

ACynicalDad · 22/09/2023 23:09

YABU, most weeks your child will be in there, but just sometimes they won't. Do they need to go through with a class list and check there are equal numbers of every child?

theduchessofspork · 22/09/2023 23:14

Bloody hell. They have enough to do. Statistically the odd child will get missed. She’ll be in next week. Don’t be so precious.

miniegg3 · 22/09/2023 23:35

Mines rarely in photos from school (and previously nursery) too, at first it was a bit disappointing, but I think he's usually just doing his own thing elsewhere 😅

confusedmum2023 · 22/09/2023 23:41

I have a class of 8 and do weekly photos. It takes me around an hour to sort through, upload, resize and then make sure I have the exact same number of each child. All to avoid a parent taking offence. Can’t imagine doing this for a whole nursery group. I have a never ending to do list with much more important things on it, yet each week I waste an hour doing this and that’s not including the time taken to actually type up what we have done all week 🤯

PollyPut · 23/09/2023 00:09

@rosyposycosy have you signed a form that says no photos of your child on website/internet? If so then it's likely they are not taking photos of your child so they can't upload them by mistake

So why do you do it?

Hellocatshome · 23/09/2023 16:51

My child was inseperable at nursery with a child who couldn't have his photo published I very rarely got any photos of him.

Probably this then

Sounds plausible

confusedmum2023 · 23/09/2023 17:38

@Nicesalad Parental expectation and communication, either have do it that way or it has to be done daily. If I could get out of it I would.

UnsolicitedOpinions · 23/09/2023 17:40

Fair enough if your child wasn’t in any of the photos for 2 months, but starting a thread just because they’re not in one set of weekly photos is a bit over the top.

No doubt it will even out.

GreenWheat · 23/09/2023 17:42

I think it's nice that they post photos. As long as your DD is included most weeks I don't think it matters if there is the odd week when she isn't. It's no big deal.
