To take my son to the doctors for a potential ‘cold sore’ *image attached*

My son has had what I thought was a cold sore for 46 weeks. We’ve used cold sore treatments and if anything it’s getting bigger. Will I be laughed out of the doctors for taking him in for this? Does this look like a cold sore? I’ve never had one so I assumed to start and now I’m not so sure?!

46 weeks? Or 4-6? Yanbu

Hesma · 21/09/2023 17:36

I’m not sure what that is but it doesn’t look like any cold sore I’ve ever had. I definitely get it checked out

beepbeep · 21/09/2023 17:37

I’m not sure if it’s a cold sore but I would take them to the drs, especially as they’ve had it so long

anothercupparosytea · 21/09/2023 17:37

46 weeks? Please take him to the doctor.

Callyem · 21/09/2023 17:37

Maybe its some kind of cyst - doesn't look like a coldsore. Id go, or at the very least ask a pharmacist to have a look.

35965a · 21/09/2023 17:38

That isn’t a cold sore

Crabacus · 21/09/2023 17:38

That doesn't look anything like a cold sore, cold sores are usually crusty, blistered swellings. Definitely take him to a doctor

KnottyKnitting · 21/09/2023 17:38

Pretty sure that's not a cold sore. Definitely take him to the GP

MoorlandWanderer · 21/09/2023 17:39

That’s not a cold sore, defo get him seen

endofthelinefinally · 21/09/2023 17:39

That is not a cold sore. Agree with everyone saying that you need to get that checked by GP.

VeridicalVagabond · 21/09/2023 17:40

46 weeks so 10 months?! Yes definitely get that looked at, doesn't look like any cold sore I've ever seen.

ItsMyGoldenHour · 21/09/2023 17:41

Thanks everyone was meant to say 4-6 weeks. At first it had gone crusty but not sure if that is because he kept picking it! And at that time the pharmacy said it looked like a cold sore so will defo get him to docs!

Not a cold sore. Looks like a granuloma or cyst. Take to gp for sure.

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/09/2023 17:46

That's not a cold sore. GP ASAP.

MidnightOnceMore · 21/09/2023 17:58

Definitely the GP.

Cinateel · 21/09/2023 18:02

It looks like a venous lake to me. Take him to the GP.

Gifgirl · 21/09/2023 18:04

Please get that checked out asap.

ManateeFair · 21/09/2023 18:05

I've never seen a cold sore like that but cold sores can really vary in their appearance and sometimes manifest themselves in surprisingly weird ways (I speak from experience!) so I wouldn't rule it out.

However, it still definitely needs a GP to take a look at it because there are many different things it could be (personally I think it looks like a granuloma). Also, even if it is a cold sore, it's obviously a very extreme presentation of one and he might need some antiviral tablets to suppress it. Poor boy, it must be so uncomfortable - it looks really sore.

Tigertigertigertiger · 21/09/2023 20:05

Take him to the dentist

Slavica · 21/09/2023 20:31

Not a doctor, but this looks like a pyogenic granuloma. I had one on my finger earlier this year, it wouldn't go away; it would reduce, then grow again. It was finally removed by a dermatologist, a very simple office procedure.
