Hotel owner keeps his licence after running over woman at his hotel

This story is haunting me.

The trial of a hotel owner, 64, who ran over a bride's mother, 76, on the eve of a wedding has been halted after prosecutors said there was no longer a prospect of a conviction.

The hotel owner, very well-known in the area and master of the local hunt, was driving his Range Rover 300 yards to the gym (!) as he was planning to go for a RUN when he drove over this poor woman who was crossing the area on a raised pedestrian crossing.

He drove on without even knowing he had run her over and only stopped when an observer stopped him.

Absolutely no words! Link to follow.

The poor family must feel so let down by the justice system.

What a complete disgrace.

i suspect he has connections high up. I suspect a powerful man man with powerful friends. It’s outrageous he wasn’t convicted and outrageous the police failed to provide accurate parking details early in the investigation. Total injustice for the woman and her loved ones.

I definitely think he had connections. He was also Master of the Hunt, what a local hero 🦊
I really hope this family appeal. He was driving a short distance to go for a run. Well what a shame he was too lazy to walk.

I live locally (and actually worked briefly in the hotel), and absolutely nobody I know is surprised that there hasn't been a conviction. The family are local bigwigs, lots of money, lots of connections (the man in question is very senior in the local Conservative Party too).

I’ve been ranting to my DH about this for days. How the F does someone knock someone down, not even bloody notice and not be driving dangerously?!!!! It makes me absolutely furious

I just called up the Conistan hotel and spa and said I loved the look of the hotel but as a 60 plus woman, wasn’t confident that my safety walking around the grounds could be assured.
Mainly 5* reviews; don’t people think the owner running over his guests and killing them is a bit off putting?

Absolutely disgraceful, and not the first time our justice system has very visibly allowed a powerful man to walk away from a criminal conviction because the system is utterly corrupt.

Meanwhile in America women face manslaughter or murder charges for:

  • Leaving the child with the father, who let the child run outside and die.
  • Getting shot while pregnant
  • Having a miscarriage
  • Standing next to a man while he shot someone, and he made a plea deal placing her at the scene despite the fact he was the killer.

We should be very angry.

I agree with you OP but don’t start phoning the hotel. You undermine yourself, you’re speaking to someone on minimum wage, and you open yourself up to allegations of harassment or similar.
