to ask how you navigate gym showers

I can never seem to get properly organised- I take my shampoo, shower gel and conditioner in a toiletries bag but theres no where to hang it in the shower, so it gets really wet and sits in my gym bag all day- so i take the bottles out and carry them in but then I always seem to have one too many bottles to carry easily back to the changing bench- anyone worked this out properly- I always feel wet/ flustered/ annoyed

I wish my gym showers had shelves or similar! I need to wear glasses into the shower but then have nowhere to put them when I wash my face. Plus have to put bottles etc on the floor. I just tuck the bottles in my arm to carry them though.

crochetmonkey74 · 19/09/2023 10:56

i think cos my gym showers are very basic- there is no towel hook, not even a useful flat bit to balance any bottles on so everything is just all over the floor (towel slung over cubicle wall to next cubicle if it's empty)
I did have a sort of mini thick plastic carrier bag that a hand lotion gift set had come in for a while which sort of worked but again, that was wet for packing away

I have these which I refill:

I have them then hooked onto a plastic hair bobble usually which I can put on my wrist if I need both hands.

Our gym doors have towel hooks on the back which I hang the bobble on whilst I shower

Thelnebriati · 19/09/2023 10:57

Use a net laundry bag and pop that inside a waterproof bag when you get dressed.

cherryassam · 19/09/2023 10:58

oh and yes definitely dry everything super well before being packed away

MagpiePi · 19/09/2023 11:01

I've cut down one of those mesh vegetable bags that you can get in supermarkets so it has a drwcord which you can use to hang it up. I keep it in a waterproof toiletries bag in my gym bag but leave it out to drip dry while I am getting dried and dressed.

givemushypeasachance · 19/09/2023 11:06

I am very "low maintenance" and have short hair so I just take a bottle of shower gel and a small microfibre towel. Shower gel bottle on the floor, towel draped somewhere, wash, lather up, rinse, dry off, off we go. Gym showering is just for getting cleaned up and less gross, so don't go in for any scrubs or conditioning or anything save that for a longer shower at home another day.

ilovesooty · 19/09/2023 11:26

I just use the bodywash provided at the gym and put my towel on the door rail.

NotReallySureAboutIt · 19/09/2023 11:29

I just go home and shower. Who are all these people having full on showers at the gym. Shampoo shower gel and conditioner?! Seems a bit overkill. I just drive home and jump in my own shower.

I went from the gym to work this morning. I didn't need a full on shower with loads of toiletries.

SocksAndTheCity · 19/09/2023 11:46

I often have full showers at the gym; they have a water conditioner so it's better for my hair! I have a clear washbag from Sephora which I can hang on the shower door handle that has all my hair stuff in it.

When it's a quick in and out in the mornings though, I just use the gym shower gel and hang my towel on the hook outside.

crochetmonkey74 · 19/09/2023 11:55

I'm not high maintenance but I go to work straight from the gym so need to look presentable- so I will be having a full shower there
Like the laundry bag idea and those little bottles on carabinas look fab

There are shelves in the cubicles of my gym, and rails on the back of the door. Also use travel size botttles of shampoo/conditioner/shower gel. And a linen towel. So much less bulky and heavy in the gym bag and quicker to dry.

Edited

this is so much better than mine which is showerhead and fabric curtain- no shelves, hooks or rails anywhere!

Towel over the cubicle door. I only take in face wash and conditioner, I use the shampoo and body wash they provide. If they didn't I'd just take 4 rather than 2 mini bottles into the shower and put them on the floor of the cubicle. It's never seemed difficult.

crochetmonkey74 · 19/09/2023 12:10

I know it shouldnt be difficult and it never seems it when I have more time but getting ready for work there always seems so faffy and irritating

Google hanging travel wash bag. I use them for camping. They hook over the top of the door or over the lock if there is no hook. You can put your glasses in it and you can easily get to shampoo etc.

QualityCorner · 19/09/2023 12:18

I use a mesh drawstring bag- swimming brands usually sell them.
Can you ask your gym to put some hooks and rails up? It's really not too much to ask.
Otherwise... can you take your own hook??? Ridiculous that you should have to consider this... but I was thinking something like those hooks they sell to hang your handbag on a cafe table???

DoorStopper · 19/09/2023 12:21

I take a small hook that you hang over the door and hang my waterproof toiletry bag on that.
I put the bottles back in as I finish using them, but I only use wash & go and shower gel in them, so only 2 bottles and a hairbrush.
When finished, I pop the hook in the bag ready for next time.

crochetmonkey74 · 19/09/2023 13:11

oh my gosh- I cant believe I never thought of bringing my own overdoor hook- I can put that over the cubicle to the side of me- excellent idea!

You're welcome. It works a treat.

Flamingosarentreal · 19/09/2023 13:32

my gym has shampoo and shower gel in bottles attached to the shower wall . Towel hook just outside the showers .
There is also body lotion in the changing areas .
