Interview situation.
Got a text saying they needed the address (it is a well known high street brand anyone local would know, especially if they have applied for a job here)
I replied saying we are on <high street>, just up from x.
The person text back I need the actual address so I can put it into google maps.
I did send the actual street address.

What would your impression of this person be? If I was not sure i would have googled the address, but aibu?

So the interview invite didn't have the actual address, just 'M&S in Timbuktoo'? I work for a well known brand as well and everybody will know the shop - but our offices are actually in another building on the same street, so I can understand people want to make sure they show up at the correct location.

TheClitterati · 13/09/2023 20:22

Well you're not wrong - however, if you are getting people to come to
Interviews you should provide an accurate address for the meeting point. It's a no brainer to do this.

itsmylife7 · 13/09/2023 20:23

Sounds like a person who is very organised to me.

Glorifried · 13/09/2023 20:24

I think if I were them I'd have written asking you to confirm you were at 100 High St so at least I showed a bit of initiative! Makes you think they will need to be cotton wooled throughout their employment if they can't do something that basic...

Oysterbabe · 13/09/2023 20:26

I would think that they want to be certain they are going to the right place.

Theunamedcat · 13/09/2023 20:27

They sound very detail orientated they will be looking down on you as an employer I can almost guarantee it

TableSettingForTwo · 13/09/2023 20:31

It was an application for a specific location. In the phone call i asked would they be able to come to said location for an interview, no letter/email.

Someone unfamiliar with the high street / putting it in a sat nav or similar probably just wanted the correct address. I think YABU for not providing an address and just giving semi-vague directions tbh - especially over the phone! Easier to jot down + double check an address rather than a "oh it's just past the big M&S on the left".

TableSettingForTwo · 13/09/2023 20:36

I can take being unreasonable, hence why I asked :)

Interesting range of responses.

The other thing was they didnt identify themselves in the text. I dont save potential candidates numbers in my phone either so it was lucky I had my diary in front of me to know which candidate i was texting!

Good point about potential ofnoffice being separate from the high street address. Will take that on board.

The person might not be from the area or recently moved there? There might be multiple retailers in the same town/city (ie we have 3 separate "Boots" in the city I live in)? They might be a nervous driver and wanting to put the correct address in the satnav to find nearest parking places? They might be nervous in general and just wanting to confirm the address, even if they have found it on google?

This. You could have just sent the full address and postcode and said 'it's just next to X shop'. That's what I do. Surely you want people to stress as little as possible about stuff like this so they can focus on doing their best at interview?
