Rash in the family - should I still go into work?

Hi,

Over the last few days every member of my household, except me, has developed an itchy red rash all over their body. GP isn’t sure what it is, no potential new allergens have been introduced that we are aware of. We’ve all been given scabies cream by the GP. One member of the household works in the NHS and has been asked not to come in to work.

I had Monday and Tuesday off as AL and WFH today. I’m not showing any signs of it so would I be unreasonable to go into the office tomorrow? I didn’t think it would be an issue but my household are split on whether or not it’s appropriate.

I don’t think you can call in sick because other people have a rash and you don’t.

If you are able to work from home maybe ask to work from home the rest of the week as the rest of the family are sick and you don't want to bring anything in to the office with you. My work would be fine with that and I have done this when son and husband had a vomiting bug.

Thanks, I agree with you. Just want to make sure I’m not BU. I accidentally caused a covid superspreader event in the office so don’t want to be responsible for striking down my colleagues and their families again….

I’d ask your line manager for a steer. We had this when we had Covid in the house: for some weird reason everyone had it except me. I asked work what they wanted me to do and they asked me to WFH for a week as a precaution, which I was happy to do. As it was I never came down with it but I would have been happy to go in or not depending on what work wanted me to do.
