Just been into our spare room ( dumping ground of shame) which will one day be a tastefully decorated,

functional office space for my husband.. anyway there I was rummaging around looking for a photo frame when I was most rudely smacked on the head by a collapsing ironing board.

Now, I have used the ironing board, I know it's in there so it's not a woo thread but for the life of buggery I cannot remember buying it. We've lived her for 17 years and I have absolutely no recollection of going to a shop and purchasing such a thing?

How would it have even fit in one of our cars?
Don't remember anyone gifting it to us,. that I would know because they'd be banished forever and only receive a Xmas card with the most cursory of greetings😙

Anyone else?

We own a knife which must be the flattest, most 2D knife in existence, no-one likes using it and it doesn't match any of our other cutlery. No idea where it came from...or why we still own it.

picsssodreams · 12/09/2023 22:27

We have a garlic press. Absolutely hate garlic with a passion but there it it sits in the cutlery drawer. No ideas how that got there either,, much like your flat knife 😃

Mine is the opposite. I was in the shop the other day and bought a whole rotisseriec chicken (this was sunday) with intentions of chicken sandwiches for lunch. I left it on the island with the intention of putting it in the fridge when cook however I totally forgot about it and we all went to bed and locked up the house. The chicken has not been seen since. An entire chicken in its bag went missing. No wrapper anywhere, no carcass, dog certainly could not have reached it and it is baffling the living daylights out of me.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 12/09/2023 22:28

When cool not cook duh.

fairymary87 · 12/09/2023 22:29

Hahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahahah oh that's so funny! Someone clearly ate the chicken

DixonD · 12/09/2023 22:33

My house used to be my mother’s. And she’d lived there since 1979-2005, when I bought it. I have A LOT of stuff that I have no idea where it came from!

birdling · 12/09/2023 22:54

You've found the ironing board!!!

MummyDummyNow · 12/09/2023 22:57

@birdling oh my god you're right!!!! She's found it! We must let the lady that lost it know. Weirdly was remembering that thread the other day! 😂

I remember the lost ironing board thread!
Must be a classic.
In this house stuff appears and disappears. No point in trying to hang onto it, things have a will of their own.

SamAndEIIa · 12/09/2023 23:03

A pair of men’s socks turned up in our house. Black, they say “Sunday” in red writing. No other days of the week are present, and they seemed pretty new when they arrived.

Only male in the house is my partner and they aren’t his - he asked me where they came from.

We have had no overnight guests, no other man has ever lived with either of us, and neither of us have ever seen these socks (or any of the other 6 weekdays which clearly were part of the set)

Hummusanddipdip · 12/09/2023 23:04

@picsssodreams a couple of years ago there was a post by someone who's ironing board had vanished into thin air, she posted asking the hive mind to suggest where it might be. The way you worded your post sounds like you've found that missing ironing board.

You raise a very good point. I have no idea where our ironing board came from either.
We've been married 30 years and I don't remember buying it with DH. I had my own house before I met him and he lived with his parents, so presumably I bought it before I met him (he moved in with me). So that makes it 30+ years old. But where did it come from? 🤔

Wait 'Sunday' socks suddenly appeared in your house. So many questions... was it on a Sunday or another day of the week? Where did they appear? We're they folded together in a pair? Did your husband have them on his feet? 😎

A few months ago a dress appeared in our house.

Its a size 8... and I'm definitely not a size 8. DH wouldn't fit in it either. Its too big for DDs.

It just appeared in the clean washing.

M4J4 · 12/09/2023 23:22

Not only could I tell you where everything in the house come from, I could tell exactly how much I paid for it.

However, ask me about the periodic table and I would only remember a few.

This is the thread. Immediately sprung to my mind too Missing ironing board thread

Forgot to say, not a kitchen item, but I found what I assume to be a silver baby rattle on the floor next to one of our sofas. It's a ring with a larger lump,on it and it makes a ringing sound when you shake it, not clear like a bell but a dull ish ringing sound. No idea where it came from, it wasn't there when we moved in, it wasn't in our previous house. I had even recently moved the sofas to paint the corner where this was found! Still have it and still have zero idea where it came from.

Something similar happened to me a while ago with a packet of udon noodles. I definitely unpacked them from the shopping bag. I left them by the hob as I was planning to cook them, but they disappeared while I was getting out some salmon and marinating it. Had to make rice.

We moved a couple of months later and I was packing the shelves in the garage (integrated garage), found a random packet of udon noodles. Still no idea how they got there.

I hope you don't find a random smelly chicken!

Lizzyinatizzy · 12/09/2023 23:37

DH lives in a house full of stuff that magically appears - Loo roll, bananas, bin bags, shampoo, the belvita breakfast bars he likes, clean socks appear from nowhere, the list is endless.

What a snarky, unnecessary response.
