To ask if a few drinks a day whilst on holiday has any long term health effects?

Just wondering. I’ve probably had 3 or 4 alcohol drinks, most days, for a period of five days. Possibly 5 drinks on one of the days. 2 units in most of the drinks

I never really drink alcohol at home, maybe the very occasional one at special occasions.
I can go weeks or usually several months without even having one drink

I saw an article some time ago about the health effects alcohol can have on health generally and fertility. Something reminded me about it earlier. Should I worry at this amount I have been having or is it ok as a one off?

No. Its fine.

Someone will be along soon to put the fear of god into you, but I think its fine

Diet and health is what you do over the long term, its about your habitual behaviours, not one offs like this

No, you're good

Bloody hell, let's hope it has no long term effects or a lot of us will be in trouble. What I don't understand is if you "rarely drink alcohol at home", why you would drink more on holiday. I drink alcohol regularly (probably too much) perhaps a bit more on holiday but not massively more.

I dont really drink alcohol at home, but I do on holiday. I dont have to worry about getting up on time the next morning, if I get hung over I can just spend the day in bed if I want. We tend to eat out every night when on holiday and for lunch most days too, so alcohol is normally part of that. I am also very fussy with what I drink, I really only like tea, proper tea and you cant get that abroad. I dont drink fizzy or carbonated drinks, I also dont drink anything with artificial sweetners in them. Therefore, its still water or wine. I go for the wine (when out and about)

"Regularly drinking more than 14 units of alcohol a week risks damaging your health."

40 units sounds like a lot in the space of five days, but I don't think one week a year counts as "regularly".

If you're drinking spaced out over more than 2 hours, it doesn't sound like you'd even meet the definition of binge drinking.

Riverlee · 10/09/2023 19:29

Isn’t that what we all do on holiday? Surely it’s good for your mental health to rest and relax.

waterlego · 10/09/2023 19:31

This is what I do. Very, very rarely drink at home but drink most days on holiday. Not loads and I don’t get pissed but it feels different on holiday. I’ve never worried about it.

Vegetus · 10/09/2023 19:42

Are you taking the piss?

Cowlover89 · 10/09/2023 19:42

Its fine

Get a liver function test QUICK!

Am joking, having a few drinks on holiday is what makes it fun. You will be fine, and don't worry one little bit. You would have to drink double or more of the weekly limit every week for a few years to be in any bother.

I think you need another drink to relax.

Comedycook · 10/09/2023 20:03

No I don't think that's a problem. You sound similar to me...I'm virtually teetotal but do drink holiday..
