I am stuck!!

If you wanted to buy a present for a male student heading to uni this September, what would you get?

Google just seems to throw up lots of gift ideas that would be perfect for girls, not guys. What does a guy want when he's at uni? Help please!

Gift card for Nandos.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/09/2023 17:53

Vouchers for a takeaway😂
On a serious note if I am a bit stuck I buy DS1 (going into 3rd year) an M&S voucher so he can get nice food.

For his room in 1st yr he wanted practical stuff like a laundry basket, a battery charger and rechargeable batteries and posters.

Are they self catering?

When mine went I made up a "care package" of shot glasses, a bottle of vodka, chocolate and some printed photos of family and pets to pin up.

Find out where his nearest supermarket will be that he will be doing his shopping at and buy a gift card for there.

I found a comedy club local to his Uni and bought vouchers for evenings out there which included a basket meal.
Similarly vouchers for a craft brewery.
A subscription to a company that do monthly deliveries of their products is something else that has gone down well with male Uni students, I've done pork scratchings, popcorn and fudge.

I’d say something like a Tesco / Sainsburys gift card. They can use it to get food / booze or household things.

Who are they to you as that might help with ideas too?

oldestmumaintheworld · 08/09/2023 18:03

Money for drinking, money for clothes, money for food. It's all they want.

Snoozysnoozy · 08/09/2023 18:08

Fleshlight

Smoky1107 · 08/09/2023 18:09

I bought my friends son a man tool ( a flat credit card size tool for turning screws but more importantly it has a bottle opener on it and fits in his wallet!)

Delphigirl · 08/09/2023 18:10

Bottle of vodka
or
animal onesie for fancy dress

PackBacker · 08/09/2023 18:11

Cash, Amazon or Tesco voucher.

Cloverforever · 08/09/2023 18:26

Why does going to uni warrant a present? I must have missed the memo!

Mereduthisannoying · 08/09/2023 18:32

My son was given a Tassimo by his nan and a monthly delivery of coffee pods from an aunt 😁.
He's going into his second year with an air fryer.

(These were birthday presents rather than 'going to Uni' presents but chosen with uni in mind)

Nevermind31 · 08/09/2023 18:37

Money. Or some booze.

DoItAgainPlz · 08/09/2023 18:39

Gel pens

GorgeousGoldies · 08/09/2023 18:40

Hangover cure box!

Velvetbee · 08/09/2023 18:44

First aid kit. DS made friends when he had the only one and he could patch up his flat mates after drunken shenanigans.

Tumbleton · 08/09/2023 19:00

If drinks alcohol: bottle opener, themed shot glasses.

If doesn't: small photobook of pets / family / friends, (non-embarrassing) personalised mug, LED colour-changing lights.

Cosyblankets · 08/09/2023 19:03

I didn't know it was a thing either to get presents but you can't go wrong with an amazon voucher

Riverlee · 08/09/2023 19:08

Thermal coffee mug, or metal water bottle.

Something associated with his course. Eg. Medicine - stethoscope.

Food hamper containing sweets, biscuits, hot chocolate sachets etc

Beer glass or tankard

Photo frame with family photo in it

(condoms)

bridgetreilly · 09/09/2023 11:30

Fleshlight

That is a terrifying typo.
