AIBU to not enjoy boat playing music to everyone on the beach

Name changed because I don't want to be known locally as the woman who hates the boat.

We live in a seaside town with a few different beaches. Nearest to me is a quieter 'family' beach. Less than a mile away are other livelier beaches with arcades / food and drink / pubs etc.

One of the highlights of the year is going to the quiet beach the week the kids go back to school. Seabirds, sound of the waves, calm etc.

There is a boat moored just off the beach that is decorated in the style of a particular music genre. Let's say its Country and Western, and the boat has cowboy hats etc all over it. The boat owners take it upon themselves to blast Country and Western music so that everyone on the beach has to hear it.

Looking at social media people are very much posting along the lines of 'I love the country and western boat! Thanks for all the tunes' I suspect some of the social media posts are from visitors and its all a bit instagamm-y. I feel like I'm going insane because surely only a raging narcissist arse would assume that because they want to listen to loud C&W everyone else wants to as well.

Would this annoy you?

Unreasonable - everyone loves loud music at the beach!
Reasonable - the guy is an arse and hopefully his boat will sink

Yes it would annoy me

MrsClatterbuck · 07/09/2023 09:51

Would very much annoy me. Maybe retaliate with your own loud music but that might backfire. Why do people in public spaces not have the gumption to realise that not everyone wants to hear their music. Its noise pollution t h

Blinkinbloodyhayfever · 07/09/2023 09:52

Yes, the guy is a self indulgent arse and I would hope the boat will sink. My neighbours seemed to have the same attitude of turning the the blooming street into a nightclub on warm Sunday afternoons.

OhWifey · 07/09/2023 09:53

Blimey. There are few more beautiful sounds than the sea. This would make me feel quite ragey!

easilyannoyed555 · 07/09/2023 09:56

Thank you everyone, I feel less insane already! 🙏

So the question is.....are you going to be THAT beach goer who does complain? 😳🤣

RavingStyle · 07/09/2023 10:16

That would drive me insane!
Name and shame. And complain.

Gjendefloooo · 07/09/2023 10:30

I would hate that. Fucking noise pollution.
Don't know what you can do about it though.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/09/2023 10:31

That would drive me mad. Can’t stand C&W!

fairyfluf · 07/09/2023 10:32

What type of music is it? Is it calypso?

fairyfluf · 07/09/2023 10:33

If it is country and western then that's weird and annoying

easilyannoyed555 · 07/09/2023 10:34

@CaroleSinger Exactly! I suspect it gets on lots of peoples nerves but nobody wants to be the person to say actually this is terrible. Maybe I'll report them to the music licensing people 😂

Council noise pollution people. Or get over there with a drill and sink it.

MissingMoominMamma · 07/09/2023 10:37

We experienced this (not C&W though!) at Llanddwyn, in Anglesey, from a yacht
. It was really annoying!!

easilyannoyed555 · 07/09/2023 10:40

Its actually reggae - I was trying to be non identifying but this is anonymous so I suppose it doesn't matter

I think the creeping imposition of amplified music in public places is a dreadful thing. It's cropping up all over the sodding place.

BlowDryRat · 07/09/2023 12:46

YANBU. I was on a big yacht day trip last week (not in the UK). It was blasting out music the whole time and I just felt embarrassed. We stopped at various beautiful, isolated coves and beaches and were the only ones making a racket.
