It's a lovely sunny day. Let's be selfish and ruin it for the neighbours!

Why oh why do they do it? I've finished work and want to relax, but instead have to put up with someone on the street blasting out music with a heavy bass beat. So I have to keep my windows shut but can still hear it while trying to listen to the TV. 😫

I've given up trying to ask them to lower the volume. They like it loud and everyone around needs to accept it it seems. Which so many others seem to do and therefore the neighbours think it's alright for them to carry on as they wish as its only one person sticking their neck out to complain.

Is this why 'society' is slowly dying as unsocial behaviour is ignored by so many and becomes normalised?

You don't have to accept it

I’ve never understood this. The last house I lived in one of the neighbours had a karaoke machine in the garden, and would let the kids scream into it all day long. Selfish c*nts is the only way to describe it.

StinkyWizzleteets · 05/09/2023 19:24

What annoys me more than music is bloody strimmers and power washers. The neighbours around here can’t coordinate and do it all at once, so every single day during dry weather there is the constant sound of somebody’s bloody strimmer - one finishes another starts up. I’ve no idea how they’ve any grass left.

Give me bass heavy music any day.

Bedmagnet · 05/09/2023 19:25

My neighbour has just lit a massive bonfire, obviously the smoke is blowing away from his house & covering the rest of us.

DivingForLove · 05/09/2023 19:25

Yep. And if you say anything you’re met with verbal abuse - or worse. So everyone stays quiet and the arseholes get more brazen 😢.

Same with this ridiculous trend to listen to music/films with no headphones on public transport 🤬

Northernsouloldies · 05/09/2023 19:26

An idiots wants always comes before anything else. I detest thoughtless neighbours, had one for six years.

jallopeno · 05/09/2023 19:26

My street are very well behaved so I don't think it's a society thing

TomatoSandwiches · 05/09/2023 19:27

I don't like the people that walk around with music blaring from their phones.
No one wants to hear your awful taste in music thank you.

LlynTegid · 05/09/2023 19:30

You report it as described above. You asked once nicely, that is enough.

And you never vote (or vote again) for a political party that cuts police numbers and does not support the justice system.

Wiccan · 05/09/2023 19:33

I call them solar powered people , they only come out when it's direct bright sunshine. Even a warm slightly cloudy day doesn't bring them out . Today has been a nightmare so bloody noisy . Stereos, screaming , shouting , cars being revved . Bring on the autumn I can't wait !.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 05/09/2023 19:36

Add to that someone who decides today is the perfect day for a bonfire/incinerator.

shivermetimbers77 · 05/09/2023 19:40

Argghh, noisy selfish neighbours are the worst… even worse than the constant smell of weed I can smell from the place over the road every time the sun comes out!

Pashazade · 05/09/2023 19:45

Sadly our neighbour is a nursing home, 4 hours of some random entertainer singing off key......4 hours and so loud. I feel for the poor residents really.

Bunny2021 · 05/09/2023 19:54

@Bedmagnet are we neighbours?! Our neighbour a few doors down has had bonfires on two of the best days this year. All washing has had to come in, windows closed, can’t sit outside. It’s so bloody inconsiderate.

ParadiseZity · 05/09/2023 20:07

My neighbour also lit a bonfire. When someone complained, it was too big to put out apparently. I'd say a hose and a good whoosh of water would certainly have had something to say about that. 😳🙄

DisforDarkChocolate · 05/09/2023 20:10

Despite living 5 minutes walk from the centre I'm surrounded by chain saws and strimmers all summer long. I sometimes wonder how there are any trees or hedges left. I hate them all.

ManchesterLu · 05/09/2023 20:15

It's ridiculous .. same neighbours every time here, so, so loud, screaming kids in a paddling pool, very loud music - made worse by the fact it's YouTube WITH ads.

We're several doors down from them as well, so goodness knows how much worse it is closer.

saltrocking · 05/09/2023 20:18

Our neighbour smokes weed which wafts through our house if we have our windows open. Selfish prat. He's a man in his 50's too!

Caffeineislife · 05/09/2023 20:29

Solidarity with you OP. We have noisy solar powered neighbours too. We back onto a newish build estate so its all little postage stamp gardens with rows of fences. Tbh we are all too close and on top of each other with limited trees to soften the sound.

I think they are all in competition with each other for who can be the most annoying. It's been constant strimming, mowing, hedge cutting, power washing, that mumble rap grime style music (thanks teens 3 doors down), motor bike ticking over, screeching kids in paddling pools all day. Bar the kids in the paddling pool and the teens I have no idea how anyone has the energy to do all this garden work in 28 degree midday heat.

The neighbours opposite lit a bonfire this mid afternoon to burn all their waste. I have no idea how they make so much waste in order to have monthly bonfires. They have been reported, they do not care.

Roll on winter.

Wantingpeaceandquiet · 05/09/2023 20:41

Thanks everyone. Good to know I'm not being unreasonable in wanting people to be considerate of their neighbours.

Like others there have been bonfires going on as well (other neighbours in the street). Reminds me of time when another neighbour burnt stuff in their incinerator bin. The stench made me so ill I had to leave my house. They were burning plastic goods! I let them know about its effect on me and that it was against the law. They didn't realise and haven't done it again.

I think some people are just unthinking until they are told about the effects of their actions, but more and more are just becoming plain selfish.

I hate the noise from garden machinery far more than loud music and the sound of people having fun on a hot day. I have a neighbour who seems to have every noisy machine known to man and runs them every weekend without fail, even in mid-winter. It's headache inducing.

Wantingpeaceandquiet · 05/09/2023 20:48

@Wiccan That is a very apt phrase. 😊 It's just a pity that when it's a nice day we wonder to ourselves whether we will enjoy it or not, depending on what some neighbours get up to.

Our solar powered neighbours have a dog who barks at anything and they do nothing to stop it while we're pulling our hair out. We also have to listen to the female owner saying 'good boy' over and over in a nauseatingly sweet voice even when it's barking 🙄

cimena · 05/09/2023 21:13

Each to their own but I live in a neighbourhood where people often play music and I love it. Makes me feel like I’m surrounded by people having a good time, or at the pub, but I don’t have to leave the house!

handy for when I want to play stuff as well. I could never live somewhere where people dislike outdoor sound

9outof10cats · 05/09/2023 21:51

I am so lucky with my neighbours, no one seems to use their gardens, apart from me, so it's very peaceful. But I do live in a village and I think it tends to attract the type of person who values peace and quiet (apart from the sound of lawnmowers).

However, this was not the case where I lived before. One side had BBQs every bloody weekend in the summer, with loud music blasting out. It would frustrate the hell out of me because I could never hang washing out.

Growing up my parents would not allow us to play loud music in the garden, out of respect for the neighbours, so it's something I have always been mindful of.
