AIBU to not save at the moment because

We have a wedding coming up?

My parents are very kindly paying for some of it but it’s still costing quite a bit when you add up the other items like cake and photographer. We aren’t saving at the moment because the money we would usually save is being paid to these vendors. AIBU or is this normal? I’m a bit fed up about it as we hope to ttc fairly shortly after the wedding and it would be nice to have some more savings behind us but my friend is saying I’m overreacting and that lots of people actually get into debt for their weddings so just not saving is actually quite ok in comparison

I wouldn't worry about not saving when there's a reason like this

Well, you can either afford the wedding or you can't. I used my payrise and backpay to pay for bits for our wedding, DH paid for other elements, and we put the honeymoon on a credit card.

We did not get into debt to get married, but we did get into debt for a blow out holiday....

TTC v wedding - which set of maths is more important to you?

Overthebow · 05/09/2023 17:12

Depends what’s more important to you. You don’t need to spend loads on a wedding, and don’t need an expensive cake or photographer. If you think savings and ttc is most important then cut back on the wedding, but if you think the big wedding is then that’s fine and just accept that you won’t save for a while. Everyone has different priorities and that’s ok.
