Two men I saw in the street

Using AIBU just so I can have a poll

I saw two men walking down the street today, one about 30 and one about 60. They looked very similar. They were wearing matching t shirts that said "Dad and Son: Best Friends Forever" and they were walking along holding hands.

I told my colleague and said I think that's really weird. She said she thinks they were a sugar daddy and sugar "son" couple. I hadn't considered that angle and I'm not sure because they looked so similar.

What is a more likely scenario?
IABU - sugar daddy
IANBU - real father and son

Real life father and son.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/09/2023 18:19

Real life father and son. I don't know why two gay men would pretend one was the son but who knows

ApolloandDaphne · 04/09/2023 18:19

Or possibly a real life father and son where the son has learning difficulties or autism and needs some support when out in public?

DonnaBanana · 04/09/2023 18:20

Yeah that’s a weird thing to jump to. I’m going with real. They could just be close or have an affection disorder etc

Yes this would be my thoughts. See it as an interesting delve into your mates mind she assumed it was a sex kink thing. Never understood the calling him Daddy thing. Vom.

CurlewKate · 04/09/2023 18:33

No idea. I come from a family/culture where PDAs are very common among family members, but this is extreme even for me. I wouldn't rule out the sugar daddy thing TBH.

stbrandonsboat · 04/09/2023 18:51

Probably a kink. No reason to wear a T shirt like that if they were just a regular father and son. They had a reason to draw attention to themselves because part of the thrill is foisting their 'thing' onto others.

Soubriquet · 04/09/2023 18:52

I would have assumed father and son not sugar daddy.

I also wouldn’t have thought it was weird either

MermaidEyes · 04/09/2023 18:53

I honestly can't see any 30 year old man holding hands with his dad unless he has some kind of learning difficulties. So I'm going with possible kink that they think everyone else wants to see.

PattyDuckface · 04/09/2023 18:55

I vote for real Father and Son, having a bit of a laugh together

MavisMcMinty · 04/09/2023 18:56

Ha ha! I know it’s early days, but I’ve never seen a 50:50 AIBU poll before.

I’m innocent in these things, so went for father and son.

Maireas · 04/09/2023 18:57

Oh dear lord, does it matter? Two men, happy in each other's company, harming no-one. Live and let live.

Ohthatsabitshit · 04/09/2023 19:02

This has made me laugh. My ds has autism and learning difficulties and is skilled in holding on to upset and grievances. I spent a fair amount of time yesterday comforting him because Daddy had said he didn’t want to do so much kissing at bowling.😂I will tell dh most peoples first thought is not that they are father and son. Perhaps we need T-shirts 😈

Precisely.

girlfriend44 · 04/09/2023 20:47

What does it matter?

capitanaamerica · 04/09/2023 20:47

FWIW: I'm in the US and I think those kind of family relationship shirts are having a "moment" here, because I keep seeing them. That shirt would fit right in.

Back in June at a college (university) graduation, I saw a whole family with T-shirts saying "Graduate's Proud Mom", "Graduate's Proud Grandpa", etc. I was chatting/laughing with them because they had a "Graduate's Proud Li'l Bro", a "Graduate's Proud Big Big Bro" and a "Graduate's Proud Li'l Big Bro". (I have 3 older brothers, so I wondered what shirts they would get.)

Anyway, I'm sure fetishists can & probably do buy these shirts, but I think there's a much larger main market for regular old relatives. To me, Occam's Razor says: most likely a bio dad and son.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 04/09/2023 23:11

Real.

Sugar babies aren't called sugar sons.

GLORIAGloriarse · 04/09/2023 23:15

Son with learning disabilities was my first thought if they've got matching t shirts and are holding hands

That said I've just seen a happy father's day post from a NZ friend (dunno if it applies elsewhere) so maybe it could be a joke between 2 guys from there?

BloodandGlitter · 04/09/2023 23:40

I would have thought father with extra needs son.

Weird that so many of you think it's kink, kind of shows your prejudice.

Themoonandtwopence · 05/09/2023 19:07

Who cares?
