To not wash a jacket from a charity shop?

I got a brilliant bargain today! It's a leather jacket in great condition, cost £30 and a google search showed it would've been around £200. I went to take it to a dry cleaners just cos I've no idea who's worn it obviously. But dry cleaning real leather is £45! Way more than the actual jacket. I said I'd think about it 😳

AIBU to not get it dry cleaned?? 😬

I would have to clean it myself. I cantbimagine anyone else's sweaty arm bits in ot without cleaning

Ratfinkstinkypink · 04/09/2023 16:28

It wouldn't even cross my mind to be honest, I would just wear it. If it was minging and smelly you wouldn't have bought it.

FuckingHellAdele · 04/09/2023 16:29

Meh, I'd give the lining a sponge down then go spend my £45 at the pub, wearing my bargain jacket.

isthismylifenow · 04/09/2023 16:30

I would just wipe it down and hang it to air.

Whataretheodds · 04/09/2023 16:32

How does it smell? I would hang it outside to air

PinkiOcelot · 04/09/2023 16:35

Just hang it outside to air.

Topseyt123 · 04/09/2023 16:36

I'd give it a good wipe down with a damp cloth on the outside and sprayed the inside with Febreze. That would have been all that was necessary.

FanFckingTastic · 04/09/2023 16:36

A quick spray inside and out with some Zoflora in your favorite sent, wipe and wear. All clean and sanitised and you've got yourself a proper bargain!

LylaLee · 04/09/2023 16:38

I dry cleaned my find

Blossomandbee · 04/09/2023 16:39

Unless it was dirty or smelt I wouldn't worry about cleaning a leather jacket apart from maybe a wipe over with some leather wipes or leather cleaner.

WhoppingBigBackside · 04/09/2023 16:41

Turn it inside out , spray inside with anti-bacterial and hang it on the washing line to dry.

Ilikeyoursleeves · 04/09/2023 16:42

It only smells of someone's perfume which is quite nice. It doesn't smell of B.O or anything. Good idea to spray the lining. What would I use to wipe the leather down with?

“What would I use to wipe the leather down with?”

Google it.

Ratfinkstinkypink · 04/09/2023 16:54

You can buy leather cleaning spray/leather wipes in supermarkets.

And you'll also be super flammable

Ilikeyoursleeves · 04/09/2023 17:03

I've just wiped it down and no dirt or anything came off, it's in great condition! And when I turned it inside out the lining is perfect. What a find and fits perfectly too 🤩

Turn it inside out, Sponge it down, hang out in the blazing sun? Febreze fior any lingering odours?

FanFckingTastic · 04/09/2023 17:44

@doroda I'm pretty sure that most people understand that they have to dilute Zoflora (or any other disinfectant) before use, but just incase I've changed my advice to the OP below...

A quick spray inside and out with some Zoflora (diluted, as per the instructions on the box) in your favorite sent, wipe and wear. All clean and sanitised and you've got yourself a proper bargain!

GalileoHumpkins · 04/09/2023 17:47

Zoflora shouldn't be used on leather.

verdantverdure · 04/09/2023 18:14

I wouldn't put Zoflora on something I was going to wear. Isn't it terribly toxic?

This.

Crikeyisthatthetime · 14/12/2023 12:43

I wouldn't put zoflora anywhere near leather. Or anywhere near anything I wear that I couldn't bung in the washing machine. Diluted or not

LylaLee · 04/09/2023 16:38

I dry cleaned my find

I did the same. The prices were similar to your post. I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing my find otherwise.

mylittleprince · 14/12/2023 12:51

Leather wipes on the outside, turn it inside out and spray with a mixture of water & vodka.
