Too picky when applying to jobs - Glassdoor reviews

Hi,

I am in a comfortable job right not but a bit bored in the role and am looking for an alternative. I won’t apply to jobs if I can see the company has lots of negative Glassdoor reviews. Do you think this is being too picky? I value having a good work culture over earning more.

The culture at my current job is great and the Glassdoor reviews reflect that accurately, as do the reviews for my previous company which made me think they must be reasonably accurate - or am I placing too much weight onto the company reviews?

Also, out of curiosity have you ever checked your organisations reviews and do you think they are accurate?

Thanks!

I do believe in Glass door reviews. My last place of work had great reviews until it changed hands, then the reviews became very poor. This was reflective of the new owners working environment. Trust those reviews especially if they go from good to very bad, something has changed.

I think if it’s one or two bad glassdoor reviews that makes sense, you’ll always get people who are unhappy at work and feel hard done by in some way even if the other side sees it differently. I know someone who left a terrible glass door review on my old job about them not accommodating his needs - but that’s because he had a job on the phones and was shown to have a terrible customer service record, when his probationary period got extended he requested that he be moved to a non phone equivalent role. There wasn’t one, all the customer services roles involved the phone in some way, so he failed the probation and was let go. He filed a grievance and a discriminatory complaint with ACAS who threw it out when the company provided their evidence. So you do get cases like that.

But if there are a high volume of bad reviews with similar themes/complaints that would definitely give me pause.
