I've just been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes to add to it.

Saw midwife 3 weeks ago and blood pressure was 131/89 then but shesaid it was fine.

Last week I have been feeling really out of breath just from standing up and walking through the house.

I am having heart palpitations, heart thumping in my chest when I'm sitting still.

Can barely walk without getting out of breath.

I am overweight and unfit though.

Should I call out of hours about this or wait until Monday to call the midwives? I think the worry is making me feel worse.

I'm currently 32 weeks and if I were you I'd call them as soon as you can if you're worried, don't leave it. Better to be wrong and maybe just feel a little silly than be right and maybe have problems with yourself/the baby later on. Any decent midwife would be happy to ease your mind rather than have you stress unnecessarily.

I would call the maternity line number in your notes or go to A&E to get checked out. There are certain conditions that you can be more at risk of during pregnancy that can cause those symptoms so better to get checked out.

You sound anaemic! Very common in pregnancy. Call your MAU / triage (24 hour number) though, as you dont feel well and you have GDM and your BP is borderline. 🤰

Sounds like me (32 weeks)
At my 28 week appointment I was diagnosed anaemic
Just been put forward for an iron infusion and hoping it helps as I feel awful!

Hope you find some answers

Ughhelp · 01/09/2023 19:15

Are you dehydrated? Get it checked professionally though.

LucyAutumn · 01/09/2023 19:20

I was going to suggest anaemia too, I am anaemic and feel like this when I forget to take my iron supplements and it was especially bad during pregnancy.

MumInBrussels · 01/09/2023 19:41

Have you also had any chest pain, or pain/redness/swelling in your legs recently? If so, I'd talk to a doctor urgently.

My heart rate is often weirdly fast when I'm dehydrated - and was generally pretty fast during pregnancy anyway. I'd get it checked - no one will think you're wasting time or anything - but in the meantime, I don't think it could hurt to drink some more water and see if that helps at all.

I've had Gestational Diabetes twice (both babies turned out fine). Have they advised you about a special diet or anything? I had to eat small meals several times a day, no refined sugar (as far as possible), walk for exercise after meals, and monitor my blood sugar. It was a lot to do, but I fell into a routine and it all went ok.

The fast heart rate does sound concerning, and I'd be calling in for advice and getting checked as soon as possible.

Wishing you all the best and that you get some answers soon!

Merryoldgoat · 01/09/2023 20:41

Yes you should call. Sounds like it’s worth getting checked out.

millsiem · 01/09/2023 21:12

If you don't feel right then you should call today, they'll be more than happy to check you over and get things sorted if needed. Waiting will only make you worry.
