To wonder why, if the Government are replacing this bit of equality law, they are scrapping it in the first place

The Government are scrapping a bit of EU derived law which allows workers to compare their terms with those of workers at a different establishment if a "single source" has the power to correct difference in pay or other terms and conditions, eg largely female school dinner ladies compared with higher paid largely male road sweepers.

They say that they are going to bring the law back through secondary legislation later this year.

So why are they scrapping it? Isn't this just making work?

Women still have right to equal pay, says UK government, despite scrapping of EU law

Ministers say right to same pay as male counterparts will be part of new secondary legislation

It was abolished because the government needed to justify Brexit.

But, you know, sovereignty and everything.
