Teachers/parents of school-aged children: Get in training or enjoy the time left?

A conversation with DD this morning as she got out of bed at 9am - "we need to start getting up much earlier in training for next week when the alarm will be going off before 7am or we will regret it."

DD's response was "No! We should enjoy the time left and have lie-ins while we can and get more sleep"

YABU: Enjoy the time left and have lie-ins!

YANBU: Get in training and get up earlier!

(obvs this thread doesn't apply to those poor souls whose kids get up at 5am).

Mine will only settle into a proper routine once they are back!

That said I am am back to work after 3 weeks off so they've been getting dropped at their grandparents at 9am the past few weeks, meaning they've been up at usual school time anyway.

We have started winding DSS back this week. He is starting secondary so don't want him to be knackered on his first week

We managed to keep to routine until the last week. Broken arm of one child means less exercise as no swimming or more importantly at this time of year no parks and therefore the kids aren’t going to sleep as well. I feel like we need to start getting back to normal but honestly I have loads going on and I just can’t be arsed.

I used to think YANBU was the only way to go, but experience tells me YABU is best for my teenager. TBH it probably varies from child to child though, and also depends on age, how much the school wake up time differs from holiday time, how organised they are, how they cope with change etc.

YABU definitely! Teacher and parent! Couple of days of painful mornings in the first week and then everyone longs for an early night and gets back into routine. Only exception I'd make would be a 'practice' early get up one day in the last week for a really nice day out.

I set the alarm for 8am this morning. Dear god.

I'm leaning towards the 'next week will be miserable and I will curse my past self' option.
