To ask if you ever suddenly feel relaxed for no clear reason?

This doesn't happen to me often but I can think of two instances in the past. One was in hospital after DC was born and I put it down to BF hormones. Another was watching a film in bed.

I'm currently visiting with family and just sitting in the front room mostly reading Mumsnet while the tv is on and DC is playing. I have that sudden feeling of relaxation, which I get also if someone is cleaning around me (not sure why) but they are not.

Does anyone else have this and can you explain any of it?

I have had this, when I have thought I'm having visitors and I've cooked and cleaned for hours and then they ring up and cancel, for a very good reason, and I feel absolutely fantastic!

Another time it's boxing day. I always think that's the most relaxing day of the year.

It’s called ASMR op. In the original sense- not the crazy crap that’s put all over you tube now.
The cleaning one is very common- I get that one a lot. It’s like someone has poured liquid relaxation into you for a moment. Wish it would last longer- it’s heavenly.
Also get it when speaking to people with an asian accent sometimes. Or if someone is talking with a relaxing voice.
Check out asmr and some videos on you tube - but you will have to sift through some silly ones to find the videos that relax you.

Yes but only very rarely. It’s when I’m around people who I love / like, and they aren’t expecting anything of me!

When I wake up on a weekend and realise I can lie in. Sudden relaxation and go back to sleep.

Oh yes, especially if I forgot to turn my alarm clock off so it beeps and then I realize that it’s Saturday morning…bliss!

Yep it's ASMR. I used to get it at work in the office if someone was pottering quietly behind me at the printer. Could send me to sleep!
I watch asmr videos on YouTube, it's weird which ones make me relaxed!

Micsam89 · 30/08/2023 03:47

I get it sometimes, often when I'm reading and I pause, look up and out the window. Or when I've been on a long shift at work and realise it's nearly hometime and that I will get out on time that day. Especially if I have the next day off and no plans to do anything.

orangeyeahthatsright · 30/08/2023 04:22

I struggle to relax and sadly this feeling is way too infrequent for me. I'm a fan of ASMR, although I get it more from the written word than from sounds/videos, which seems to be rare from what I can tell. Descriptions of someone having their hair done, that kind of thing.

FamilyDiabolics · 30/08/2023 12:39

@PurpleWisteria1 Yeah I get asmr and the cleaning thing is definitely that but not sure what triggered it yesterday if that was asmr too (but it was that feeling). Other than something obvious like cleaning or personal attention it happens very rarely so wasn't sure if that was asmr and if so how?

PS have never smoked a joint
