For a 4 and 7 year old. Which is better? 4 y/o girl is very into theatre and will likely sit better than the 7 y/o. Thank you!

Matilda. Taken dd7 to both and while she liked Mary Poppins she was absolutely taken in by Matilda.

100% Matilda, it’s wonderful.

Westfacing · 27/08/2023 10:34

Both great but I'd say Mary Poppins.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 27/08/2023 10:43

Mary Poppins is amazing but quite long so possibly a bit much for your youngest.

HollyGolightly4 · 27/08/2023 10:44

Matilda would be my choice!

Dinojump · 27/08/2023 10:44

My initial thought was Matilda but just be aware it's a little dark in places.

BeeBelle16 · 27/08/2023 10:45

Seen both- brilliant!! But Matilda is what I would go for my dd was 6 when we saw It and she absolutely loved it!

MindatWork · 27/08/2023 10:47

FYI Matilda isn’t recommended for under 6 (I have a 4.5 yo Matilda-obsessed DD so I looked it up and showed her some pictures). I think Miss Trunchbull is pretty scary for littlies.

You know your younger DD best though!

ErosandAgape · 27/08/2023 10:49

Matilda by a country mile.

NuffSaidSam · 27/08/2023 10:52

Matilda is much better.

Miss Trunchball is only scary in a cartoony way like the one in the original film so if she's ok with that then fine.

Mary Poppins is good, but not great imo. It's very different to the film, not necessarily a bad thing but incase they're expecting it to be like the film. There are a few scary bits, much scarier than Matilda!

TenThousandSpoons · 27/08/2023 10:54

Matilda is amazing!

It's not just Trunchball though.

The storytelling part gets dark and that's the bit that gives the show a recommended age of 6+

Loved both but my children saw them as teens. MP is wonderful but quite long and not the same story as the original film. Matilda is amazing but possibly scary. Not as long, I don't think.

The story is sad in parts, but I wouldn't say scary.

But that's just my opinion. Different things scare different people.

I think Matilda is fine, unless the child is very sensitive.
Mary Poppins, quite scary.
