What are your best period comfort foods and snacks? Inspiration needed

I had planned a very simple quick pasta pesto for dinner, but the idea isn't really doing it for me now. Can't think what I do want though!

Also, snacks for watching a film...I know I want a particularly indulgent chocolate ice cream if I can find it, but what else should I consider?

What are your favourite foods when you are on?

Clearly my stomach lacks imagination today!

Salted pretzels with a bit of chocolate in between. Love the Ollys milk chocolate coated ones but they're a bit hit and miss to find in supermarkets!

For teas I love a gnocchi chicken soup (comforting but also hits a few nutrition points).

katscamel · 26/08/2023 19:00

Pancakes.....with lemon and sugar,
Really good indulgent chocolate truffles
Popcorn
Snacky things like endamame beans with salt
Mozzarella balls with baby tomatoes
Choc cornflake cakes

ddisgruntled · 26/08/2023 19:00

Oh pretzels would defo hit the salty craving! Excellent shout, thanks.

Never heard of the gnocchi soup - do you add the gnocchi to a carton of soup? Or make the whole thing yourself from scratch? I don't have the strength for that Grin

A chicken parmo and a good old Victoria sponge is my go to at that time of the month.

tigger1001 · 26/08/2023 19:04

Aldi or Lidl chocolate with pretzels in it. Sweet/salty hit.

My all time craving when I have my period is mini eggs. Trust me to crave a seasonal snack!

maltesermagnet · 26/08/2023 19:05

@ddisgruntled

Chicken gnocchi soup is homemade so might be a bit too much exertion 😂 if you google olive garden chicken gnocchi soup recipe - that's it! A period staple for me because I can eat it a few nights in a row 😂

crashblandicoot · 26/08/2023 19:11

OP I'm in the same boat as you. I'm waiting for my 2YO to get to bed and then there's a melt in the middle chocolate sponge pudding with custard on top to be had!! Yum!!

derrydee · 26/08/2023 19:12

Lasagne and chips followed by a chocolate mousse / Gu type desert.

Hankunamatata · 26/08/2023 19:14

Dark chocolate digestives and cuppa
Granola with chocolate chunks

Hankunamatata · 26/08/2023 19:15

Chocolate mug cake made in microwave

harriettenightingale · 26/08/2023 19:15

Creamy porridge with a big spoonful of Nutella.

maddiemookins16mum · 26/08/2023 19:23

On my worst period days, the only thing that helped was cuppy eggs and hot buttered toast.

Friendshipissue · 26/08/2023 19:27

I make my own trail mix with salted peanuts, popcorn and chocolate chips.
If it's a particularly heavy one I melt a handful of marshmallows with chocolate chips, 30 seconds max in microwave.

michalwave · 26/08/2023 19:28

Egg fried rice is a recent new comfort food for me. So quick and easy too. I would use the word umami if it didn’t make me sound like a twat 🤣

Ben and Jerry’s chocolate ice cream hits the spot.

AMessageToYouRuby · 26/08/2023 19:30

M&S Triple Chocolate Crunch cereal. I loathe cereal generally and never eat it except during my period.

Bit posher but I like a slice of good bread, fried gently in salted butter Top with cream cheese and something sweet like berry compote or honey and pecans. I normally buy cherry/blueberry/peach conserve just for this.

Tuna Napolitana using the Schwartz sachet mix

Watchthedoormat · 26/08/2023 19:31

A jar of Nutella and a spoon!
Salt&Vinegar Discos
Pitta bread with grated cheddar and cherry tomatoes.

Holidaystress11 · 26/08/2023 19:36

Anything chocolate.
Chocolate cake with custard
Or chocolate trifle.
I always crave something fizzy
Crisps
Anything carby or chocolate really!

LimeCheesecake · 26/08/2023 19:40

Lamb rogan josh, rice and garlic & coriander naan, possibly some sag aloo to go with (poppadoms, chutneys, some samosas to start are a given, rude not to). Follow it up with some picky chocolate like minstrels or giant buttons, but only a massive sharing bag.

that’s what I wanted tonight as also got the period cravings. I’ve had spag Bol with kids, a normal sized portion without cheese added. Having an indulgent glass of wine and then will clean teeth and go watch tv in bed, sans snack food because I’ve got to my weight aim and I’m not letting my hormones fuck it up now.

(what will make me happier - being a size 8 or being full of curry and chocolate? Tonight being slim and food sensible is winning, but it’s been a close one.)

ddisgruntled · 26/08/2023 20:27

Amazing ideas here, thank you all so much!
